I travelling to Germany in September and this will be my first time abroad since Covid began so am feeling a little nervous about the logistics etc...

I've looked on the government website, but I am still a bit confused ..?

Please can anyone tell me exactly which tests I need before I travel there and back ?

TIA

I‘m just back from Germany. Assuming you are double jabbed and the second jab was more than 14 days ago, then all you need to enter Germany is your vaccine certificate and I would get the printed letter from the NHS for that rather than relying on the app. You will also need to fill in the Digitale Einreiseanmeldung www.einreiseanmeldung.de/#/
and upload your certificate there.

Of course rules change all the time but this is what they are at the moment. Unless your airline needs you to have a negative test to board the plane, so I would check what their requirements are.

Coming back to the UK you’ll need an antigen test in Germany in the three days before you travel and they are fairly easy to get, just google your nearest test centre. And then there is the day 2 PCR test in the UK - we used Randox which was fairly straightforward. You need to book it in advance as the UK passenger locator form asks for proof and you will need to enter the test booking number.

It all sounds daunting but it’s just a load of forms to fill in really.

Have fun!

Going to Germany is no bother at all; it's coming back which is a pain in the backside. I do wish the government would get rid of the ridiculous testing requirement.
