Mixing vaccines? Any vaccinators/GPS? Am I wasting my time

Had first AZ back in March, second was due when first doses had stopped being given to under 40s.

Did lots of reading and just couldn't bring myself to get the second.

Spoke to GP who said they didn't think they could mix unless Medical reason, he said to phone 119. I phoned 119 and spoke to a nice lady, she said she wasn't allowed to advise but would book me into a big vaccine hub. She said they always have doctors and I can sit down for a consultation and we can discuss mixing. I've had a text I'm booked in early September for 2nd vaccination 🤔

You can discuss mixing but I’m guessing they may advise to have the same second dose, all you can do is go along and see what they say. You can always leave without it if you don’t want to have it.

“ Because of this increased risk of side effects, every effort should be made to determine which vaccine the individual received for their first dose and to complete the 2-dose course with the same vaccine (unless contraindicated). Individuals who do receive a different vaccine for their second dose (see below) should be informed that they may experience more reactions to the second dose.
For individuals who started the schedule and who attend for vaccination at a site where the same vaccine is not available, for example, if the individual received their first dose abroad, or where the first product received is unknown, it is reasonable, in these circumstances, to offer 1 dose of the locally available product to complete the schedule if suitable for age and not contraindicated (see Appendix 1 and Individuals who received COVID vaccination overseas section below). This option is preferred if that individual is likely to be at immediate high risk or is considered unlikely to attend again. Further doses of vaccine would not then be required.”

Thankyou for your response @LadyFannyButton . Think I will just go and hope that they will offer me an alternative 🤞

If you refuse to leave without the alternative & say you won't come back for a second AZ they are allowed to give it to you (we do). They just need to document it all.

Hi I have had a mixed vaccine - Astra Zeneca followed by Moderna but Canada, which is where I am, have licenced this. The research seems to point to the protection against Covid is actually greater when vaccinations are mixed but I don’t believe the uk has authorised mixing of vaccines at this point. You might want to consider that travelling with mixed vaccines might be harder for this reason, for example the States also hasn’t recognised mixed vaccines as being valid second dose, so it is potentially a real headache if vaccine passports are implemented. I should also mention I was fine with azn in terms of side effects but vomited all night and couldn’t get out of bed for 2 days after my Moderna jab as the poster above quoted from the guidance.

Thankyou everyone 😊 I went to the walk in today. At first they advised AstraZeneca and said I would be unable to have an alternative. I said I would go without and they presented me with a form to sign to say basically that they had advised me otherwise. I've had the pzifier this afternoon 😃😃

How do you feel today @TulipVictory?

TulipVictory · 31/08/2021 14:59

@WeeEnglishRose my arm is very sore. I woke up with a headache, my eyes hurt, I feel a bit sick and I'm tired. Otherwise, I'm still trying to go about my day as normal though
