When to test after contact with positive case

Dandy008 · 20/08/2021 23:06

We’ve had family stay with us for two nights.

One of them has now tested positive.

I last saw them on Tuesday. She developed symptoms Wednesday and got her positive result yesterday.

Both me and my husband are double vaccinated so won’t need to isolate, but the new advice is to get a PCR.

So at what point should we get one?

I would’ve thought getting one now is too soon and not very useful.
Should we wait a few days?

I guess there is no right or wrong. You can develop up to 10 days I think.
You should probably do a LFT daily though. And maybe 2 PCRs during the 10 days?

Have you not been contacted by the tracing system?

Porcupineintherough · 21/08/2021 03:32

I'd suggest a pcr on Sunday and another next Wed.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 21/08/2021 06:23

I believe that PCR on days 2 and days 8 are suggested.

I read that on average people are testing positive 3.71 days after contact - a fair few of these will be people who've already developed symptoms. From this, I'd say today would be a good time.

Give it 4 days from last contact; if you saw them on Tuesday morning then test this afternoon, otherwise tomorrow.

MRex · 21/08/2021 08:15

That's for PCR; presuming you're double jabbed, if that's clear then do LFT each day and another PCR if you even just feel tired.

I tested positive on a LFT 4 days after meeting my dad who turned out to be infected. This was confirmed by PCR the following day

I also had contact with a positive case on Tuesday and am not vaccinated. We all did tests last night so are waiting for the results today. I have a cough and feel unwell, 28 weeks pregnant Sad

The advice is asap. My DD caught covid on a Monday (this was the only day she was out) and tested positive by Thursday so I think it would likely show up now if you've caught it.
