Has anyone's child been offered the vaccine yet?

My daughter (12) had her first jab today because of me being immunosuppressed.

I'd contacted the GP as I hadn't heard anything. Apparently out of 16000 patients only 20 had been put on the list by PHE.

Therefore the surgery couldn't do me a letter. They did give me copies of my notes and my Dds notes in the hope that would be enough at a walk in. Thankfully it was sufficient but what faff for something she was entitled to have.

The annoying thing was that the dr Facebook post was really pushing the importance of having it done before school and then couldn't let her have it because of this list even though she was clearly eligible

Youmeanyouvelostyourkey · 25/08/2021 21:51

@Backofbeyond50
I'd call the GP and ask if they will be sending the letter out. If not, ask for copies of DHs notes as proof of eligibility as well as your child's notes. Then a walk in centre who is doing 12-15 year olds should accept it

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 25/08/2021 21:55

Oh god Youmean this is exactly what's worrying me :( Either that or the GP or PHE has decided I'm not immunosuppressed enough. We can't even get a response from our GP.

Orangesandlemons77 · 25/08/2021 22:42

That's odd, we didn't need any notes or anything. (for the 12 yr old today) There was a letter about CEV household contacts I used for my 16 year old months ago when they started with the vaccines in that group....we didn't need anything just the name but then the lady had booked him in on the phone.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 25/08/2021 22:47

Are you in Scotland Oranges?

Youmeanyouvelostyourkey · 25/08/2021 22:56

@PastMyBestBeforeDate My records had my condition and the name of the drug that I take and as soon as the Dr saw that, she was happy to vaccinate my DD. I was amazed at how easy it was.

I was expecting lots of people at the drop in, and it was just a dr surgery with someone dedicated to it. Nothing like the more structured session that I went to.

I got the distinct impression that my GPS surgery had their hands tied because of "the list". They suggested taking my records and wished me good luck but couldn't guarantee I'd get it. But I guess we ticked the criteria and went prepared.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 25/08/2021 23:04

Thanks Youmean. I wonder if it's worth us trying that. I'm on an a 'zumab' medication. Does that sound like it would do the trick?

oprahwindfuryy · 25/08/2021 23:10

My ds is 14. Had Pfizer 3 weeks ago. Was (man) flu like for 2 days. At app I asked if he would need another and they did not know. Was told they’d contact me if he needed another. He was shielded in lockdowns.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 26/08/2021 14:55

We've been called :)

mrshoho · 26/08/2021 15:31

That's good news! there's hope for us yet!

Schulte · 26/08/2021 15:53

We received the invitation letters today too, dated 20 August. They were either stuck in the post or the clinic generated them after I called to ask about booking my DDs!

Schulte · 26/08/2021 15:54

@PastMyBestBeforeDate

Thanks Youmean. I wonder if it's worth us trying that. I'm on an a 'zumab' medication. Does that sound like it would do the trick?
I’m pretty sure that’s what DH takes too. Something ending in zumab.
PastMyBestBeforeDate · 26/08/2021 15:59

Fingers crossed mrshoho. It should be so much simpler.

mrshoho · 26/08/2021 16:01

My DH is on Ustekinumab. I sent an email to our CCG and our MP, so will wait and see. I'm tempted to try our walk in centre and bring DH's hospital letters however I have a small problem in that DS is now undecided Confused. It's his choice at the end of the day but slightly annoyed as he was all up for it when his sister was getting hers. Teenagers who'd have em lol.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 26/08/2021 16:02

Good news schulte. Does sound like the zumabs are a trigger. Would have been good to know that weeks ago!

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 26/08/2021 16:03

Oh frustrating! Fortunately mine's responded with 'Woohoo'

Orangesandlemons77 · 26/08/2021 16:23

@PastMyBestBeforeDate

Are you in Scotland Oranges?
No I'm in SW England
PastMyBestBeforeDate · 26/08/2021 16:30

It was the mention of a phone line oranges. Apparently there is a booking line in Scotland for under 18s.

Orangesandlemons77 · 26/08/2021 18:15

Oh OK. This was a lady ringing from the local vaccination centre. Had been given details from the GPs. Have a person in the Shielding group in the household so we also had a letter about household contacts back in June.

mrshoho · 26/08/2021 19:03

I received a reply from our CCG. They are working on it but still weeks away by the sounds of it. In the meantime it looks as though 12-15 national rollout is coming soon which I think is good news.

Thank you for your email enquiry. We are working on specific pop-up clinics for children 12-15 years old, with certain conditions or who live with parents/carers with certain conditions, in line with national guidance. Children will be identified by their GP, and parents/carers will be sent a letter inviting them to book for a vaccination. We are expecting these clinics to be run over the upcoming weeks.I am seeking further clarification in respect of your second query regarding the best way to book a second vaccine for your daughter (16-18) and as soon as I receive this I will come back to you.

Lougle · 26/08/2021 21:29

@PastMyBestBeforeDate

Good news schulte. Does sound like the zumabs are a trigger. Would have been good to know that weeks ago!
It's not all 'zumabs' though is it? I take Ajovy (fremanezumab) injections for migraine but they're not identified as being immunosuppressive.
PastMyBestBeforeDate · 26/08/2021 22:22

I don't know Lougle. That's been the issue, not being an expert in pharmacology :) I was going off something someone medical said to me a while back.

Hopefully that message is a week or two old mrshoho and they're nearly ready.

mrshoho · 26/08/2021 22:33

Unfortunately not, it was written today. There's a postcode lottery as with so much of the NHS. At least we know they are working on getting it ready.

Swirlysnail · 31/08/2021 07:19

So ds is back in school on Thursday and still no vaccinations for eligible children being offered locally.
