Can a persistent headache be covid?!

Hi all. I am double vaccinated if that makes any difference.

For 3 days I've had an awful headache on and off. I do get bad headaches quite regularly. They often last a whole day then bugger off before bed time then I wake up fine. It's all to do my with my bad jaw usually. So for the first day or so I just thought it was that. It does feel very similar to my usual headaches just a lot worse.

But this one is hideous and it's been going on for 3 days. It does come and go but I've been feeling sick with it. Feel like something is squeezing my head, my sinuses hurt and weirdly my sense of smell is heightened. Everything is smelling rank and I feel sicky at times but not really ill, just meh and tired.

I've recently had my wisdom teeth surgically removed so it could be that triggering it but I'm two weeks after having it done now so not sure how likely it will be that but I have had some severe facial swelling and bruising and my jaw hurts like mad.

Would you take a test? Just because I'm feeling a bit off in general. Can't explain it - just tired, headache and sinus ache (my sinuses do play up a lot) and everything smells ten times worse than usual. Everything I smell is catching my throat and making me gag. dreadfully tired too!

Yes it can

I've just had a positive test, I'm double jabbed and the headache is my main symptom. I'm also feeling very tired. No cough, and I had a high temperature for one night. I'd get a test if I were you. The results came back really quickly too.

Yes. I had COVID in December and my first and worst symptom was a headache

palacegirl77 · 17/08/2021 15:48

Id get a test too. Ive just had covid (we all tested positive) - my first symptoms were tiredness and headache - I then got a "cold" about day 3 and felt shivery overnight. Daughter had 2 day headache and so did partner. No coughs for us - just general headaches and fatigue main symptoms.

Thanks all. I will book a test! I am hoping it's just from my inflamed jaw but best to rule it out I guess! I just want to know why everyone smells ten times stronger or worse right now. Everything is catching my throat. I can smell everything from a mile off. Bizarre!

Everything tastes strange but my sense of smell seems normal.

Stronger sense of smell was an early pregnancy symptom for me, if that's a possibility Grin

My sense of smell was crazy when pregnant but I would hope it's not that hard 😅 I have two already and not planning anymore! Unless my Mirena coil has stopped working 😒😒

It could be Covid or a migraine. I get migraines quite frequently and it seems like everything smells really strong and also smells awful.

Thank you. I do often wonder if what I have been experiencing for a while is migraines. For a couple years maybe every couple weeks I wake up with a squeezing headache that takes all day to clear usually (often clears by evening). I feel sick, light headed and just wanting to sleep (impossible atm with two kids) The pain is often extreme. The only thing that would suggest that it's not a migraine is that isn't a migraine usually one sided? Whereas these headaches surround my whole head like my head is in a vice! Doctors seem to think it's tension headaches caused by TMJ. They don't usually last 3 days either. Usually fine the next day. It's not been continuous for 3 days though - it's been on and off! No evening tests where I live so will get tested tomorrow!

Yes a good double vaccinated friend tested positive last week after a protracted headache.

LifesTooShortYOLO · 17/08/2021 21:17

It could be or it could be a while range of other things.
I suffer with TMJ of the jaw so I feel your pain with that it causes horrible headaches.
Best to get a test to be sure 😊
Good luck OP x

I'd do the PCR but also wonder about infection ie abscess from the teeth.
