Already self isolating but double jabbed - do they have to continue?

A colleague is self isolating because they were notified by Test and Trace (not pinged by the app) on Friday 13th that they had been in close contact with a positive case on Tuesday 10th. They were told to self isolate until Friday 20th.
With the change to the rules today, do they still have to self isolate? Their absence is causing a lot of problems here and it seems pointless them continuing to self isolate when no one else is doing it Confused

No.

Backofbeyond50 · 16/08/2021 07:38

No if double jabbed or under 18

Banani · 16/08/2021 07:43

No, according the the guidance on the gov.uk site.
Irritatingly though it appears some of the T&T contact tracers haven’t been given up to date information. I’m aware of a couple of our contacts (Covid hit our house yesterday) who were contacted by T&T yesterday who were told the rule change doesn’t apply to them. Clearly wrong if you look at the link another poster added above, but enough to create unnecessary confusion and worry. According to Twitter this has happened to a lot of people.

Here's the text I received yesterday.
They should have had one too

Sorry, this is the link I meant:

www.gov.uk/government/news/self-isolation-removed-for-double-jabbed-close-contacts-from-16-august

“ The following groups of people identified as close contacts will no longer be required to self-isolate. If their self-isolation period began before 16 August and was due to end after 16 August, they will be able to leave self-isolation on 16 August:”

Silkiecats · 16/08/2021 07:47

They can stop now if double jabbed 14 days prior to the close contact.

FlagsFiend · 16/08/2021 07:48

As I understand it if they had their second jab before 27th July they should not need to isolate. However it would probably be best for then to get some sort of clarification from test and trace as they don't want to risk a fine. When the rules changed before Christmas (from 14 to 10 days) I was isolating and received an email saying my isolation period had changed, so they will possibly receive information that way.

If you work in health or care then there is some extra guidance - I think to do with lateral flow testing.

Thank you for your replies but that guidance is for people in the household of someone who had tested positive. What I’d really like is the guidance for people who have previously been notified by T&T. My boss is going round in circles!

I would expect your employer to do their own risk assessment based on your job role.

Because of my job, I will be shocked if we're not still expected to isolate if actually a close contact because we could expose so many.

I've already had messages from beautician and hair salon asking me not to go in if I've been a close contact.

Whilst I know we can't continue as we are forever, this feels like a very risky move.

I hope friends, family and colleagues respect each other enough to give people the heads up if they've been a contact.

Imnothereforthedrama · 16/08/2021 08:07

No you don’t need to isolate but your employer may decide otherwise. Me personally I think employers should request a pcr test before anyone comes back .

Mindymomo · 16/08/2021 08:27

My Son has gone back into work today after being advised he was a close contact last Tuesday. He has done a PCR test last Thursday, but no result yet. He went into work today, but has just come home as they say he needs his result back first. Luckily he only works a short distance away.

No, I am in same situation had text from T&T yesterday

Son chased his result, negative. So has now gone back into work.
