Can the NHS contact tracing all be wrong

It’s come up on the app saying I’ve to isolate for 9 days, but the only time i left the house on the day I’d had to have been in contact was to go to the shop in the evening, it was really quiet and there was hardly anyone in there at all (big supermarket) and I used the self checkout I’m pretty certain I wasn’t within 2 metres of someone for 15 minutes, I don’t think I was even in the shop for 15 minutes.
Can the app be wrong? Would you isolate anyway just in case or not?

Oops title was supposed to say App not all! ‘All be wrong’ sounds fairly dramatic

No I wouldn't isolate.

Also if you are double jabbed then you don't need to isolate from tomorrow anyway

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 15/08/2021 21:32

Do you definitely just mean the app, your title says contact tracing, have T and T spoken to you?

If it's just the app you presumably know that's just advisory and if you are double jabbed and have no symptoms you know that from tomorrow you don't have to isolate

I'm not sure what happens if T and T have called you but I'm sure someone else will.

Inim · 15/08/2021 21:34

Yeah definitely just the app, I forgot I even had it installed until it pinged me!
I had my second vaccine less than two weeks ago so not sure I count as double jabbed yet

Nine days isolation is the number it gives you if you tell it you have symptoms.

Has someone been playing with your phone?

dementedpixie · 15/08/2021 21:40

It just means that contact was a couple of days ago. It depends when the person tested and when you were in contact as to how many days it tells you to isolate for
Summerofcontent · 15/08/2021 21:42

If you tell the app you have symptoms it'll tell you you have to isolate for 9 days.
A lot of people where I work have done this to get time off

Summerofcontent · 15/08/2021 21:45

Try it.

You'll need to uninstall and reinstall the app to get rid of it though

Muchtoomuchtodo · 15/08/2021 21:51

Is that right?

I’ve not had a single day off sick or for self isolation through this whole thing - I know I’m very lucky,

But I would quite like 9 days off when the kids go back to school……

I’ve worked extra hours, DH was made redundant, it’s not been all plain sailing.

I wouldn’t actually do this, but the thought is rather nice!!

Summerofcontent · 15/08/2021 21:59

Yes, tell it you have a cough, push enter/submit or whatever the button says.
It'll then tell you to get a PCR test.
Then push the back arrow on your phone and it does the flashing red circle thing with isolate for 9 days

kowari · 15/08/2021 22:01

Can't you just uninstall the app? I never get asked to check in anywhere anymore.

worriedatthemoment · 16/08/2021 00:01

I thought i would see if i could back date my symptoms and then put in negative pcr but it says code not recognised or expired ? How can i backtrack

worriedatthemoment · 16/08/2021 00:23

As now telling me i still have days to isolate but i had negative pcr which it won't accept
I had put in before but its not showing in my data last test either , useless

Banani · 16/08/2021 06:37

It doesn’t have to be 15mins to count as contact, it’s a minute if under 1 metre, which can easily happen in a supermarket.

namechangeandNC · 16/08/2021 07:16

Delete the app. Being pinged isn't a legal requirement to isolate. Only calls from T & T are, and all that changes today anyway (although I see you're not two weeks after your second vax yet).
Many of us have never had the app...delete... Uninstall... Carry on with your life.

LemonRoses · 16/08/2021 07:20

It’s very unreliable.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 16/08/2021 07:25

Yes it has been well publicised that the app is often inaccurate. Lots of people have been pinged when they can't have been exposed.

purpletrains · 16/08/2021 08:03

You have the app? Retro!
