Positive & negative PcR. Is he positive?

Myself, my husband and our son have just returned from the Canary Islands.

We had to do a private PCR when we returned.

The results came back, DH & I negative, but to our complete surprise DS was positive.

He had absolutely no symptoms and his LFT’s have been negative.

I took him to a test centre and had a NHS test done, and we’ve had the results today which are negative.

Test and trace have been in contact with us and we have to isolate until the end of next week.

I’m so confused how he can have a positive and negative test and LFT’s are still negative too.

We will obviously isolate but could it just be possible that the private PCR was wrong?

I would assume he's positive. Yes, it's possible the private PCR was wrong, but so could the NHS one. A false negative is more likely than a false positive.

It's possible that one test was wrong out of the collection, and also entirely possible with a young person like your son that they may have been infected but thrown it off again really quickly. Best wishes, isolation is very very boring... my knicker drawer hasn't been this tidy for years!

What made you take him for another test?

What made you take him for another test?
@spongedod

I guess just the shock of him being positive.

I'd be assuming it was a wrong result.
