I feel scared…

I’ve been struggling with anxiety- I’m so scared of catching Covid and was scared of the vaccines as well.

I sought help from the GPs etc which were all useless- in the sense not saying GPs are useless but the advice was hold off the vaccine until you are more calmer but I’m not calm as I’m scared of Covid-

My husband (double vaxxed) said why don’t we drive to walk in centre in a hospital and you can either go in or familiarise yourself as much as you want and come out

We did that, each step was hell / I was crying but I did take each step went to the door and told the volunteer through my tears- I was taken in (my husband and dd (7) came in as well)

Went through the whole process in floods of tears but I didn’t run- I got vaccinated

It was Pfizer

But since coming home-

1). I’m terrified that I’m going to die if a cardiac arrest or stroke as a side effect of the vaccine

2). I’m 40 so not young - but no underlying conditions - I’m convinced we (husband,me and dd) have caught Covid in the vaccination centre.

I feel panicky all the time…

Not sure why I’m posting maybe just to get it off my chest
@EmeraldShamrock I really don’t think you understand what it means to be lining in a country you were not born in and go through what life throws at you…

We both are not from the UK - no family and no friends whom we can call upon.

My husband came in so that I had an emotional support - where can we leave our daughter?

In the car? - that’s illegal
Locked in the house - that’s illegal
Out side the vaccine centre - that’s illegal
Drop her in the waiting area - that’s more scary for her

I prepped her as much as I could - my husband was cuddling her throughout and explained that mummy was not hurt just a bit scared of the needle

She didn’t see the jab go in etc- the staff gave her stickers etc to keep her occupied

Husband showed her the hospital snd was talking about ‘operation ouch’ bbc program etc

When I came out I reassured her that I’m fine now

We all are in a storm but we all our not in the same boat- but everyone is trying in their own way to stay afloat
Also honestly your DH needed to keep your DD away from the hospital. Truly that should have been more important- he needed to shield her from being anywhere near that, rather than him being with you.

EmeraldShamrock · 15/08/2021 11:46

What's done is done, next time you are facing an anxious decision leave her out of it, don't share your worries with her.
I was my DM sound board, my DC believe I'm a lioness without fear as I never want them to see me scared, nervous, saying I can't, nothing works, she had a defeatist attitude from anxiety.
Try to be brave.
I hope your Dad recovers and you feel better soon.

ssd · 15/08/2021 11:50

Anxiety is absolutely horrible.

Well done @FeelingJittery1Flowers

ATieLikeRichardGere · 15/08/2021 12:01

OP well done for getting your jab! That was really hard for you but you did it!

Keep pursuing support for the anxiety.

Best wishes for your dad.

FeelingJittery1 · 15/08/2021 12:15

@EmeraldShamrock thank you for understanding- yes I will be more careful around her

In fact I already am- I’m petrified inside but I’ve brought her out for a cycle ride

I’m convinced I’ve caught Covid - but I’m trying to put on a brave face

It might sound ridiculous but it’s huge for me

@ssd
@ATieLikeRichardGere

Thank you

Anxiety really is horrible- not many understand it

Now my mom has tested positive- sister negative

They both are double jabbed

EmeraldShamrock · 15/08/2021 12:58

Awh I feel so sad for you now, it must be horrible. Flowers
For all I've said about my DM's I adored her and protected her. I really hope you feel better soon.

FeelingJittery1 · 15/08/2021 15:14

Could someone who is more knowledgeable around vaccine efficacy answer this for me please?

I’ve had Pfizer on Thursday- 1st dose
When will I have some protection if I need to travel?

Am I at 0 protection today? Day 4

OP posts:
Cookerhood · 15/08/2021 15:17

It takes a couple of weeks to build up protection, it will vary though. With delta you really need 2 doses though, plus you need 2 for travel mostly.

Cookerhood · 15/08/2021 15:19

According to this article it kicks in on about day 12, but this was written before delta. There are plenty of articles if you Google. Or look for @sailorscout on Twitter.

AlexaShutUp · 15/08/2021 15:20

You've done brilliantly, OP. You were scared but you had the jab anyway. Good decision, well done.

Hopefully your anxiety will subside too. You will be fine. Serious side effects are vanishingly rare. You have done the right thing to protect yourself, and your immunity will gradually start to build. It will be important to get the second dose to ensure that you get the maximum benefit. Take care, and take each day one at a time.

FeelingJittery1 · 15/08/2021 15:22

By couple do you mean atleast two weeks? 14 days or more?

But won’t the immune system work towards an efficacy level? As in if by end of day 14 (let’s say) it should be 50% efficacious- then doesn’t it work towards that from day 1 and gradually increase?

I don’t know if that makes sense..

@Cookerhood thank you- I tried not to google as I’ll end up going down the rabbit hole.

I’ll read the attachment

NotaCoolMum · 15/08/2021 15:24

@FeelingJittery1 just wanted to offer you some reassurance. I had Covid last Christmas as did most of my friends (we were in a “hot spot”. The worst symptoms any of us had was loss of taste and smell temporarily and tiredness. We all came through it and are absolutely fine now so please remember even if you caught it, chances are much higher than not that you would be ok xx also, my DP and my son who I live with did not catch it 💐💐

choli · 15/08/2021 15:26

I hate to think of the damage your "anxiety" is doing to your child.

FeelingJittery1 · 15/08/2021 15:29

@NotaCoolMum were you fully vaccinated when you caught it?

OP posts:
NotaCoolMum · 15/08/2021 16:24

@FeelingJittery1 no I hadn’t been vaccinated at all until February. I’m fully vaccinated now. I had the Pfizer 💐💐 my friends hadn’t been vaccinated yet either x
@choli- I’m sure op isn’t choosing to be anxious so probably less judging and more understanding would be nice

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 15/08/2021 16:55

@FeelingJittery1 well done for getting the vaccination.

Do keep chasing some psychological support.

In the mean time you need to dig deep and resolve to not allow yourself to get into a spiral.
It’s done Now
Worrying doesn’t change any outcome.
Go for a walk
Read a book
Watch a TV show
Allocate 10 mins once a day when you can allow yourself to worry.

Don’t google
Don’t seek reassurance on social media
Don’t read main stream media

It takes Herculean effort but you must try for your sake and your family

I live with anxiety at times I appreciate how awful it can be.

FeelingJittery1 · 15/08/2021 17:00

@NotaCoolMum thank you- that’s reassuring

OP posts:
FeelingJittery1 · 15/08/2021 17:03

@GreatBigBeautifulTommorow yes I’m trying to distract

I’m cleaning the house which requires no thinking but keeps me busy

It’s not just the vaccine, or the fact that my dad is in icu with Covid snd my moms tested positive

I cannot travel easily to be with them as it’s a red listed country

And I’m convinced I’ve caught Covid in the vaccination centre or the supermarket yesterday

I’m trying not to think

OP posts:
ssd · 17/08/2021 21:18

How are you doing now @FeelingJittery1?

FeelingJittery1 · 17/08/2021 21:25

@ssd still feeling nervous- I did the most stupidest thing, there is a thread questioning Pfizer deaths and I read it….now I’m pretty convinced this is going to kill me
@ssd still feeling nervous- I did the most stupidest thing, there is a thread questioning Pfizer deaths and I read it….now I’m pretty convinced this is going to kill me
I've had both Pfizer jabs and I'm still very much alive. Stop reading stuff about it, you're creating your own anxiety.

FeelingJittery1 · 17/08/2021 21:42

@userxx I know- I shouldn’t have read that thread

OP posts:
aibusux2u · 17/08/2021 21:59

OP try the DARE app. It is great for helping you get through anxiety and panic. It teaches you to accept your anxiety and be comfortable with it so it no longer scares you. I was having several panic attacks per day a couple of months ago and it has turned it all around for me.
You have my sympathies. Anxiety is horrible but you are strong and you can do this. Getting the jab when you were terrified shows you are braver than millions who have gone and had it without a care. You are stronger than you realise. Flowers
