Positive pcr on last day of isolation, no symptoms

Positive lft and pcr on the 3rd, with symptoms.

Did a pcr yesterday just to check (as i was under the impresson i'd be asked to do this before returning to work) and it's positive, no symptoms apart from taste and smell still affected. Do my 10 days restart?

I thought they won't PCR test you for 3 months after a positive because the result will be inaccurate?

IsabellesMissingSock · 13/08/2021 11:56

Yeah that's right, you aren't meant to do a PCR for the 90 days following a positive test. Not sure what it means in terms of continuing isolation though - I expect T and T can advise

Blueskythinking123 · 13/08/2021 12:01

You will now need to isolate for a further 10 days because you have done another PCR - that is my understanding (I could be wrong).

You must have said you still have symptoms to book another NHS PCR test, is that correct?

@IsabellesMissingSock @Wnikat

Yeah i've only just found this out today. Not sure how i didn't know lol. I'll contact t and t though thank you

I didn't know either until I recently had covid! Hope you get some good advice from them :)

@honeyytoast did you speak to anyone at track and trace

dementedpixie · 13/08/2021 18:06

No you don't need to restart isolation as you are still within the first isolation period

And you don't need a negative test to return to work

Lakeshore6 · 13/08/2021 18:09

Noooo you don’t restart. It’s normal to still test positive but you aren’t supposed to be infectious at this point .

Madcats · 13/08/2021 18:35

One of the first things T, T & T said to me was that I shouldn't do another PCR for 3 months.

Hopefully they will be able to see both tests and apply common sense.

Sending you "get well soon" vibes.

Hang fire, I'm just getting my head round this. So if you're positive you do your 10 days Abs then life as normal. What if you get symptoms in a months time? If you can't retest for 90 days then there might be loads catching it again unable to confirm whether they have it and just out in public.
This is mind boggling and a bit concerning.

dementedpixie · 13/08/2021 20:46

If you get symptoms again you would test but in the absence of symptoms you wouldn't test within 90 days
