How long for PCR results at the moment?

We've just had to test toddler DD as she's developed a cough for the eleventy billionth time, lateral flows are negative so are hoping it's yet another cold picked up at nursery.

The last time we got PCRs was about 3 weeks ago and it took 3 days to get the results, is it still that sort of timing? DS is booked into a holiday sports course with a friend on Monday and Tuesday, he's so looking forward to it and I'm really hoping we get a quick result so we don't have to cancel...

I had one at a walk in centre last week and it took 20 hours. A colleague had a postal one and it took much longer.

DaisyWaldron · 08/08/2021 07:48

Mine was midweek, though, which might make a difference.

alwaystrying1234 · 08/08/2021 07:49

Mine took 4 days to arrive a few weeks ago. It was a home postal and over a weekend so that probably made a difference.

ButterflyAway · 08/08/2021 07:50

Our positive Covid results took less than 24hrs, all of our negative results have taken 3+ days to come through. Been the same with everyone I know so if you’re waiting for results, you’re most likely negative!

niceberg · 08/08/2021 07:54

I was surprised that my home /postal PCR this week took 4 days after I posted it (in time for collection).

kimlo · 08/08/2021 08:08

In my experience it doesn't matter what the results are, it takes what it takes.

I had one yesterday for goong back to work after isolation. 24 hours from posting. Dd2s positive took 16 hours, but hers was a walk through.

16 hours has been about average for the walk through test center.

Heifer · 08/08/2021 08:10

We took DD to get one at midday yesterday and the results were in at 4.00am - so 16 hours.

Re Lateral flows, hers was negative 2 hours before she went for a test....

Heifer · 08/08/2021 08:12

sorry didn't mention her PCR is positive.

Bloatstoat · 08/08/2021 08:17

Thanks everyone. We were a drive through, it seems so varied though, fingers crossed it's not too long.
@Heifer that's exactly what I'm afraid of, it seems from people I've hear from the lateral flowcan take a while to show a positive. Hope your DD is doing ok.

Went to walk through yesterday first thing - got the negative result 17 hours later.

HalfDutchGirl · 08/08/2021 10:21

Drive through on Friday morning was through yesterday morning (positive result) drive through on Thursday evening was through Friday evening (negative result). So less than 24 hours for both.

Monsterpage · 08/08/2021 11:29

@HalfDutchGirl so did you have a negative test on Thursday then do again the next day and it was positive or was it different people having the tests?
HalfDutchGirl · 08/08/2021 11:31

Sorry @Monsterpage my post wasn’t clear. My daughter had the negative PCR on Thursday (result on Friday) I had the positive one on Friday (result yesterday).

MandUs · 08/08/2021 11:32

We've had several this week, all back in under 24 hours. Scotland.

Monsterpage · 08/08/2021 11:35

Bloatstoat · 08/08/2021 11:44

Thanks everyone. It's sounding quite good, we did the test early afternoon yesterday so I'm hoping result will be back later. Flowers to all testing positive, hope you're not too bad.

@Monsterpage feel fine thanks, just symptoms of a very mild cold, any other year I wouldn’t give it a second thought. Glad yours was negative!

@Bloatstoat hope you get a negative result.
