What would YOU do about Covid?

I get that the government can’t win, whatever they do. And everyone seems to have an opinion on what should be done about Covid. I have my own opinions but am wondering what everyone else thinks, about lockdown, mandatory vaccination, etc.

So, what would you do, if you were in charge?

Would have had all children back in school week on/week off from June last year. Would have vaxed school staff asap.

DottyHarmer · 09/08/2021 09:22

I would have retained school exams - the algorithms and teacher assessment have wrecked the system.

@NameChangeNameShange

Start treating it as a global issue - the UK can't 'control' it (nor can US, China, AUS or anyone else for that matter) until every country 'controls' it. So start vaccination programs on a global basis and understand that until that happens the rich folk in the first world need to realise they will be inconvenienced.
@NameChangeNameShange totally agree with you

Vaccination for all 12 plus children. Masks compulsory in all public indoor spaces.

I agree about school exams should ever have been cancelled. They should have desks widely spaced and everyone in masks. Especially this year after didn’t work last.

Kokeshi123 · 09/08/2021 11:07

I would have kept schools open throughout for the youngest kids (under 8) and the 14-18yos, spaced out, windows open, masks. Young kids cannot cope with homeschooling while parents work, 14+ kids are working towards exams. The ones in between were the best suited to coping with remote learning for a bit.

That's the situation in Italy now. We'll see if it works!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 09/08/2021 16:30

Same with the cries for boosters this autumn with ever decreasing age groups. Give the damn vaccinations to countries that need them first! I think it’s dreadful that we will be further vaccinating people just in case when there are millions around the world who will never get access to one jab.

At the risk of sounding selfish I hope we carry on with the booster programme. Most of my family are elderly and I want them to be safe and DH is in the over 65 group so I want him to have a booster if necessary.

bumbleymummy · 09/08/2021 23:04

if necessary is the important part. The WHO link above suggested that there isn’t actually evidence to support the need for booster jabs yet.

So many great replies. I have given a lot of thought to this and this is what I would do:

  1. Mandate mask-wearing in public places.
  2. Allow business owners to mandate mask-wearing and vaccinations in their workplaces.
  3. Make the vaccination available to all.
  4. Mandate vaccinations for all international travel.
  5. Item up the country and get on with our lives.

Shut everything down completely for two to four weeks, enlist the army and police to ensure compliance

Ive not rtft so apologies if I'm repeating a point but people going on about the army always makes me laugh - how big do you think the UK army is? About 100,000 (inc reserves) and they are going to enforce lockdown for a population of 67 million? And what are they going to do exactly? Shoot people for leaving their homes? (the government would really recover from that one!)

Mickarooni · 14/08/2021 12:07

Clearer messaging to the public. It was haphazard. The rules were unclear and confusing. I consider myself reasonably intelligent and I am fully literate with access to social media. I cannot imagine how confusing and disjointed the messaging must have been to people who cannot read, lack access to the internet and/or have other difficulties. :(

@KhalliWhalli interesting your thoughts, never sure about number 2 on your list because it seems allowing employers to make individual decisions on health matters does not work. You only have to read the threads about working from home or going back to the office. There are many poor managers in many walks of life.
