I received a text around 6pm from NHS booking to confirm that my 2nd vaccine appointment had been cancelled. I was initially filled with dread because I have my second one coming up next week and just want to get it over with. Then I checked the details and saw it wasn't mine, someone in Derbyshire (nowhere near to me) had cancelled their appointment and entered my number for the confirmation. I didn't find it strange because it is easy to get phone numbers wrong by one digit. I later checked my emails and saw I had received the same confirmation sent to me as an email. This threw me off completely because I have an uncommon name even by South Asian standards, and my email contains my name.
So someone had managed to use my phone number and email address to cancel their own appointment? Wouldn't they have needed to use the same details when booking them in the first place, in which case I didn't receive the random confirmation for?
I called 119 to chase up and the staff couldn't have been less bothered about it if he tried. He answered the call with "yeah what's up?" and his response to the situation was "I'm sure they'll realise they've put the wrong details in" and then hung up.
I'm just very confused by this and hoping someone doesn't somehow end up cancelling my own booking
