Sorry, yet another isolation query!

I thought I knew all there was to know about isolation but turns out I don’t!

My partner (who I don’t live with) had symptoms of a cold early last week and took three lft, all negative. I also take them, for work, also negative. On Saturday I had a blocked up nose, no other symptoms , took two tests since, negative. I did a further one this afternoon - positive! I’ve booked a PCR for tomorrow and by my calculation my 10 days will be up on Tuesday next week (Saturday being first day of ‘symptoms’).

My partner is now fully well but after my test result took another test - still negative. His Dad who lives with him & I haven’t seen for a a couple of months, also took one and that is positive! His Dad will now isolate for 10 days. Now we assume my partner did have Covid but with negative tests and gave it to both of us. Does my partner need to isolate? I’ve read that after recovering from Covid, PCR can still show as positive even though, in effect, it’s been over 10 days since his first symptoms.

I hope this makes sense! I’ve searched the NHS website but can’t find an answer! BTW, I feel fine apart from my blocked nose and have been double jabbed.

You can’t assume your partner has had Covid. A member of his household has tested positive so he now has to isolate.

He should have had a pcr test at the very beginning! Then you likely wouldn't be in this mess.

More than one virus is in circulation. As a contact he needs to isolate.

Rainbowsandstorms · 05/08/2021 22:48

Yes he needs to isolate, as you don’t know if he had it or not, as you say it would be an assumption.

I would say firstly you all need to get PCR tests done to confirm, like everyone says I think if you were to ring 119 they would say your DP has to isolate for 10 days if PCR tests come back positive. LFT are for people who don’t have symptoms, your DP did have so should have got a PCR test to confirm.

Yes he needs to isolate as immediate household contact of his DDad

QueenStromba · 06/08/2021 08:56

You can't assume that he gave it to you and his DF so your DP needs to isolate for ten days starting the day after his DF's positive test. I don't think T&T will count from Saturday if you just had a bit of a blocked nose, have been fine since and have had multiple negative LFTs in the meantime - they will probably say 10 days from today which would allow you out Monday week.

Forget his cold. He lives with someone who has tested positive so needs to isolate. It’s that basic.
