New symptoms include sneezing and 'cold'

We've all got COVID, including DH, me and both DSs (19 and 22).

We are all double vaccinated .

Symptoms are like a bad cold - sneezing, scratchy eyes, croaky and sore throat.

numerous Lateral flows all negative in 2 of us. PCRs all positive.

I've seen limited info about sneezing being a new symptom but hadn't really known to look out for it.

Do you think it's common knowledge in your circle?

It was negative, had results back already :)

Just waiting on the results. Still not feeling great today. I think they just have a cold if I'm honest but I just want to be sure.

Abraxan · 06/08/2021 11:06
@Abraxan what made you do 2 pcr's ?
First one was because she knew someone with covid but wasn't in the self isolation window (just) but we were going to see an older relation so wanted to be sure.

The second, a few days later, was part of a research study app based in her symptoms.

The LFTs were for going to various places and first one was curiosity before the PCR was done.

worriedatthemoment · 06/08/2021 11:31

@Abraxan yes thats the thing dh had cold symptoms and then ever so slight cough and we did pcr qnd negative and have done lft whilst at home and all negative as well
He is a lot better now with no symptoms
But on here you read so many who just had runny nose and say they then tested positive , I was sure dh would come back positive but obviously colds are still around

steppemum · 06/08/2021 11:33

I have to say that I am approaching this the wrong way round.

I don't want to have to do a pcr test, don't want to find I'm positive etc, so I will only do one if I get the app symptoms.

I'm double vaccinated, and since I've been ill, (Monday) I have been at home and haven't seen anyone. No-one else in the house is ill. I deliberately haven't kissed/cuddled kids, and cancelled all visitors/visits etc.

I've done exactly what I am required to do and not one step further. 9well except I did do 2 LFT tests) Sorry if that makes me a monster.

Piggywaspushed · 06/08/2021 11:49

Test and trace caused enormous confusion to my DS when they asked him his symptoms by going through the list. He said no so they told him to isolate for 10 days after his test even though he had had 5 days of a streaming nose and fatigue with an occasional cough. No questions to him about other symptoms...

SilverGlitterBaubles · 06/08/2021 11:52

These were listed by DCs school weeks back when they saw the rise in positive cases with these symptoms. They basically advised ignoring the 3 symptoms listed on the gov/NHS website and get tested for pretty much anything but mainly cold, cough, sore throat, headache, temperature. Lots also brushed off cold/ sneezing as hay fever which meant it spread because people didn't think they needed to test. No idea why they have never updated official symptoms list. I suspect it's a good way to keep official numbers down Confused

worriedatthemoment · 06/08/2021 12:04

@SilverGlitterBaubles maybe its because there are also colds etc as well and hayfever and if everyone tested there wouldn't be enough

worriedatthemoment · 06/08/2021 12:06

@Piggywaspushed yet my friend dd had positive test , started on weds with a cold and next day sore throat , negative lvt for 3 days , then one back positive so had a pcr and positive also , they counted the 10 days from when the cold started, but not sure if that was track and trace advise , think they may if just had an email , I will double check .

caughtinanet · 06/08/2021 12:09

I think it's pretty well known that general cold or hay fever type symptoms can indicate the delta variant but common sense tells us that neither of those things have disappeared so you need a text to be sure

Piggywaspushed · 06/08/2021 12:10

They contradict each other constantly. DS2 has been told two separate dates!

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 06/08/2021 13:08

If covid is mutating to include sneezing as a symptom, then that's potentially of concern. Aerosolised virus spreading through the air with force of a sneeze is not good news at all

bizboz · 06/08/2021 13:19

So you would have picked it up because she lost her sense of smell within a few days…

The lost sense of smell came two days before the end of our isolation period, over a week after the sore throat started and 6 days after the positive PCR. If you were only going by this symptom you would likely be spreading Covid around for some time before you tested.

I don't blame you at all, @steppemum

@UnmentionedElephantDildo that's already happened with all of the more easily transmitted variants- ds1 and I were sneezing like mad w the kent (alpha) variant last Christmas. Hence why I'll be masking up (hosp grade) for the next while, at least indoors.

Rina66 · 06/08/2021 15:44

Both positive here - lateral flows first and then PCR's.
Very very sneezy, very bunged up, very little coughing and no sore throat. Biggest difference between this and a heavy cold is the loss of taste and smell about 4 days in.
Both double jabbed, so hopefully that's stopped the worst of the symptoms.

JustDanceAddict · 06/08/2021 15:53

I had a mild cold recently- mainly bad sinuses and minimal snot/sneezing.
Did 3 lateral and all negative.
Everyone else in house negative lft inc neg pcr for dd as she was only one who got pcr for work reasons.
I think there are loads of viruses about & I get a lot of sore throats/sinus crap so I didn’t take a pcr.

Bennetgirl · 06/08/2021 16:04

I’ve just done a pcr test on my 2.5 year old. She has a stinking cold and a continuous cough. Just waiting for the results. I can feel my throat starting to hurt now 😩

Oh goodness - that can't have been easy 🙈

@DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo It wasn’t! I wouldn’t have bothered but her cough is worrying and she’s hot to touch.

I really hope I don’t have to do this all winter when anyone has a cough. One of our schools wouldn’t let a child in with a cough until they had a negative pcr. It could prove to be a very long winter!

To be fair at the time I did test positive I didn't have any of the three main symptoms.
