New symptoms include sneezing and 'cold'

We've all got COVID, including DH, me and both DSs (19 and 22).

We are all double vaccinated .

Symptoms are like a bad cold - sneezing, scratchy eyes, croaky and sore throat.

numerous Lateral flows all negative in 2 of us. PCRs all positive.

I've seen limited info about sneezing being a new symptom but hadn't really known to look out for it.

Do you think it's common knowledge in your circle?

It's quite a common symptom in double vaccinated people. There's more and more awareness of it but I didn't know until I got it!

DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo · 05/08/2021 13:35

Me too, @bettycat81 - now I've had it I know about it!

I wonder how many more people would be getting PCRs if they knew?

I'm just getting over a bad cold with all those symptoms listed above.
I took 3 tests at home, all negative. I was convinced I had it and am now thinking I probably did.

LIZS · 05/08/2021 13:42

Saw a poster yesterday which listed "Feeling tired and unwell" as a delta symptom. How vague is that?

DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo · 05/08/2021 13:43

All my lateral flow tests came back negative, @Amdone123 - after a night of temp and sweats i went for a PCR which came back positive.

We're on day 13 of isolation after I made DH get tested (and then he has passed it on to DD and then to me eventually). He had to fib about symptoms online to get a PCR (hopefully they have updated the list now).

We have had loads of lateral flows and several PCRs each but I think the positive tests only started appearing after a day or two after starting to sneeze.

It looked like a really bad case of Spring hayfever (but I was the only one with itchy eyes and a bad headache).

Luckily we've not felt particularly unwell.

I'd forgotten that - you're you're right, we had to tick yes to the random symptom boxes to get tested.

@DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo, I feel bad about it now. I should have gone for the test properly. I finished work on the Wednesday ( first day of feeling ill), was in bed all weekend so thankfully didn't see anyone, but I have been out this week. Confused.
I'm at home now for next 5 days ( no plans to go anywhere), so that's OK at least. I've been double vaccinated too.

Amdone123 · 05/08/2021 13:56

@LIZS, I shouldn't laugh, but that's ridiculous!

emmathedilemma · 05/08/2021 13:58

oh jeez, i'd heard about the sneezing but been putting itchy eyes down to hayfever......although it has been alleviated by antihistamines.....I've had a stuffed up nose, occasional random sneezing, headache and itchy eyes for the last few days but put it all down to hayfever which I do suffer with. LTFs also negative. Maybe I should book a test??

Jng1 · 05/08/2021 14:00

Unfortunately the NHS /testing pages HAVEN'T been updated with new symptoms for the Delta variant so you can only get a test by lying and saying you've got one of the old symptoms:
a high temperature
a new, continuous cough
you’ve lost your sense of smell or taste or it’s changed

Without being too cynical, this could be why case numbers are falling. People think they just have summer colds/hayfever which don't show positive on LFTs and then they don't get a PCR test because they don't have eligible symptoms?

LIZS · 05/08/2021 14:01

Similar to this one

I would book a test @emmathedilemma

There are obvs lots colds and hay fever etc going around, but a PCR will tell you for sure.

Agreed @Jng1 - I don't think the numbers ARE falling - just that they're going under the radar.

Sneezing has been a common symptom since the aloha (Kent) variant so I think it's pretty well known

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 05/08/2021 14:07

Oh, um, maybe I've had it then. I get spring hay fever and then again in mid to late August. I had full hay fever symptoms last week, sneezing, itchy nose and eyes and a cough, plus being tired (although I'm always tired so it's hard to tell when I'm more tired). I thought it was just normal hay fever starting up about three weeks early, possibly related to having had a heat wave. I considered having a test done, but DH also agreed that it was entirely normal hay fever symptoms for me, just a bit early.

Bingbongbash · 05/08/2021 14:09

So now any symptom or lack of symptoms could be coronavirus.

Amdone123 · 05/08/2021 14:09

I would pp.
Good luck !

Amdone123 · 05/08/2021 14:11

I should add that that's how I felt on the 1st day. By the 3rd day I had my head in my hands and felt like I was dying 😢

BahHumbygge · 05/08/2021 17:21

Surely the Aloha variant would be the Hawaiian one Wink

CatAlice · 05/08/2021 18:10

I had read it on the Zoe app. DS (double vaxxed) started last week, sneezing his head off, then two nights of high temp. Several negative flow tests but went for a PCR on day 2. It was negative, so just a cold.

HemanOrSheRa · 05/08/2021 18:14

DS tested positive on a LFT on 22nd July. Positive on a PCR on 23rd. He had a runny nose, sneezing but no real 'new' cough. He is 16 and I was contacted by track and trace on his behalf on the 24th July. Having a runny nose and sneezing were one of the questions they asked.

Summersdreaming · 05/08/2021 18:20

When I had covid the T&T people said I would need to stay in isolation past day 10 if I had a runny nose or sneezing. So they are enough to keep a person under house arrest.. but not enough to get a PCR test Confused excellent work there Boris.

emmathedilemma · 05/08/2021 18:42

Just been for a PCR test, booked at 4pm and was there for 6. It’s only down the road so worth doing for peace of mind and hopefully it is only hayfever!

butwhatcanwedo · 05/08/2021 18:49

If you don’t want to lie you can put your real symptoms on the Zoe app and they often offer a PCR test.
