Positive LFT after testing window

I took a lateral flow test this morning (literally on my way out to go for a PCR) and it was negative within the 30 minute window. However, I looked at it this evening and it had a faint-ish but definite test line. I know it doesn’t count as a positive outside the 30 minute window, but anecdotally has anyone else had this and gone on to test positive on PCR? I’m six months pregnant and feeling rotten, plus DC has nursery tomorrow so I’m quite anxious to know, even though I think I’ll get my PCR results back early in the morning!

I think youre just going to have to sit tight and wait for the PCR results. Hope its not positive and you get a quick result, obviously your DC cant go to nursery until you get the result.

I had that a couple of weeks ago, although mine was a fairly strong 'positive' several hours later. I've done several lateral flow and a PCR since then and all negative.

Thanks both - have just woken up for a coughing fit and read my negative result. I’m surprised how strong the evap lines are on the LFTs!

I had a faint result at 1am, outside the testing window: I went for a pcr the following morning to be sure. I did another LFT on my return and it was a strong positive just nine hours after my faint result. You need a PCR especially with those symptoms.

Starlightstarbright1 · 05/08/2021 04:42

Sounds like you need pcr.. fingers crossed its negative

pinkynonk · 05/08/2021 05:06

My PCR has come back negative. It was one of the new types of lateral flow that gave the very visible evaporation line. I’m going to start chucking them out after the 20 minutes is up! Unfortunately whatever I have got is bloody awful (especially in pregnancy with no good medicine options) but at least we don’t all have to self isolate.

I've never had an evap line on the older type of lft, but about 50% of the new type give me a strong evap line once they've dried. The dye on them is awful. I throw them out at the 20 minutes mark now, but I don't like having to read them before the dye has even finished going across. Wish I could get the old type back!

pinkynonk · 05/08/2021 08:15

That’s interesting! I took an old type and left it out overnight to see what happened, and sure enough, no evap line. I tend to think lateral flow tests don’t give a great account of themselves on the whole, given their purpose!

What do the new type look like? I didn't realise there'd been a change.

pinkynonk · 05/08/2021 11:23

They’re very similar but you only do them in your nostrils, no throat. Also the tube has the liquid in it already with a foil seal over it, and you have to leave the swab in for a minute after stirring it.
