No sorry he can’t go to Greece. If he’s been called it the official test and trace and therefore legally binding. The app is different, and wasn’t legally binding but this isn’t what has happened here.

Trampolean · 04/08/2021 07:25

To be fair i blocked T&T 10 days before i went on holiday as i predicted when cases rose that it could be a possibility

How do you block test and trace?

A colleague of mine was track and traced 2 weeks ago - she was phoned daily, and as she missed the first few due to having her phone on do no disturb she did then have a home visit.
They are still doing it and you risk a substantial fine.

The discussion about blocking numbers is irrelevant for your husband as they have already told him he should be isolating - if they then can't get hold of him by phone they are likely to visit him at home.

(It is also immoral, but it sounds like you don't care about that.)

NeilBuchananisBanksy · 04/08/2021 07:33

He cannot go to Greece, it's extremely selfish and irresponsible. Plus, if he develops symptoms out in Greece you'll have to pay to stay there. Plus the whole plane full of people will be affected. Any insurance you have would be invalid.

This isn't just the app pinging but the proper T&T system. They do random calls and I've known them to do house checks.

Just because he's negative now doesn't mean it will stay that way. You need to do the right thing.

Trampolean · 04/08/2021 07:33

Now test and trace has authority to share your information with local councils if you don't answer the phone who do routinely knock on doors then not sure what it really achieves, but each to their own. It's also not actually just the one number they call from but appears as a smart number so it shows as consistent. All in all, better to just not answer the phone if you're that way inclined as the end result is the same; they try and call and no one answers.

fadingfast · 04/08/2021 07:35

If you are contacted by track and trace and told to isolate, it is a criminal offence not to do it and you can be fined (up to £10,000 I believe) if you don’t comply.

Icequeen01 · 04/08/2021 07:41

So you would happily risk infecting a whole plane full of passengers and people you will come in contact with during the holiday (and realistically think how many people that could be!) I totally get your anger and disappointment but honestly words fail me.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 04/08/2021 07:41

just isolate and defer your trip to greece

starbrightstarlight8888 · 04/08/2021 07:43

My dsd had the police round to check she was isolating after returning from abroad. There is now covid in our house and we had someone knock on our door yesterday to check whether we needed anything. I'm not sure what would have happened if we'd not answered the door, whether they'd report it higher up or not.

Aggy35 · 04/08/2021 07:44

He should be isolating.Jab doesn't mean you won't get it or spread it and taking the test the same day as the contact happened means nothing.Tbh it seems people are forgetting what the virus does and putting a Friday pint and holidays well above other peoples lifes. He rules are there for a reason and if everyone followed them im sure we would have tackled covid much sooner

tintodeverano2 · 04/08/2021 07:51

He hasn't been pinged. He's been phoned which means that legally he has to isolate. Someone has given his details as being in contact with him who has tested positive.

If he was pinged by the app then he wouldn't have to isolate. But a phone call means he does. It face a huge fine.

FenceSplinters · 04/08/2021 09:28

I suspect the OP will ignore advice.

If it’s not a wind up.

I can’t genuinely believe that ‘I need to self isolate, can I go to Greece’ can possibly be real. How was he planning to get to Greece without leaving the house?

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 04/08/2021 09:54

I suspect the OP is already on the plane to Greece with her germ-ridden husband. He'll be the one who orders can after can of Stella as well in order to avoid wearing his mask.

Icequeen01 · 04/08/2021 12:44

I really do hope it's a wind up. Surely no-one can be this arrogant and stupid.

BareGrylls · 04/08/2021 13:16

Isn't the rule in Greece that if one person on a flight tests positive the whole planeload of passengers are put in isolation?
Much as I love Greece I would not want to end up in forced isolation. or even worse in hospital.

Cookerhood · 04/08/2021 13:44

I think it's the people immediately around them, not the whole plane.

caughtinanet · 04/08/2021 13:49

How are people still so ignorant of the rules? How do they not know the difference between being pinged and being rung up by a person and why do they think that isolation shouldn't apply to them?

I despair at the stupidity

luckylavender · 04/08/2021 13:57

@1983mum - the system is not 'being disbanded' on 16th August. If he's been rung he has to isolate.

itsgettingwierd · 04/08/2021 14:02

This is the absolute risk people are taking with bookings.

We all know the risks and some people have decided to take it and some haven't.

But as disappointing as it is you have to still isolate.

I considered booking for after 16th but don't want to get caught positive abroad.

We also have considered U.K. based but it's hard to get anything in my price range so we've opted for some days out instead.

As horrible and disappointing as it is he must isolate by law.

Formaldeheidi · 04/08/2021 14:03

Of course he can’t go OP. But surely you knew this situation was a possibility when you decided to book a holiday abroad this year?

Motorina · 04/08/2021 14:04

@1983mum

I don't understand what the point of the vaccinations were then? He can have testing to show no Covid and did on Monday

Also this system is being disbanded 16 august so seems pretty pointless?

Test and trace doesn't link up IT wise with the passenger locator form system so don't see how they'd know whether he goes abroad or not

Weird that this is still an active expectation.

Well the main point of the vaccines was to stop him getting seriously ill or dying. Reduced disruption is an incidental benefit.

If he goes to Greece he risks:
A criminal conviction and fine.
Testing positive in his return test and being stuck over there - at his own expense - for who knows how long.
Spreading covid.

Motorina · 04/08/2021 14:06

And, really, if you think the test and trace computers don’t talk to the passenger locator computers… well, I have a bridge for sale.
