P. M wants a 'balanced and simple' approach to travel.... Anyone know what this might mean?

As distinct from an imbalanced and complicated approach? Ban all travel? Ban no travel? Confused

It’s probably going to be the most complicated change yet Hmm

Rumours seem to be that he is going to abandon plans for Amber+. However, they still want to keep variants out.

Not sure how they plan to do this?

I think the announcement is Thursday, so we’ll probably have details leaked over the next couple of days.

Go on holiday but, don’t go on holiday. Simple.

@SpringRainbow what rumours? I've been trying to read the political tea-leaves on this as have a DD abroad but am finding it murkier than usual, I must admit!

He wants to punish France for the ban last year into Calais, no other reason to keep France on Amber + (but no other EU country) esp when you let unvaccinated Americans in (the USA has no proof of vaccination, nor are they letting us in)

There are 100s of variants out there (and always will be) and as we saw with Delta, its impossible to keep them out, so as long as vaccines work, whats the problem with Travel in a vaccinated population?

Wilkolampshade · 02/08/2021 18:05

@Boarderingmadness ahh yes, was forgetting France and the boggling nonsense of that....

I agree with you, but would love someone to tell me why international travel should not be allowed for the vaxxed.
paddlingon · 02/08/2021 18:45

(the USA has no proof of vaccination

A small technical point there are universal cdc vaccination cards that you get in the USA following vaccination.

There isn't an electronic passport scheme but if there was it would only be based on the vaccination records.

paddlingon · 02/08/2021 18:46

We have to show them to attend concerts and the like in the USA currently.

Billlius · 02/08/2021 18:47

Government ministers and GMB presenters can go on holiday, the rest of us can’t. Simple.

Changechangychange · 02/08/2021 18:57

'balanced and simple’

Open everything up. Look aghast when variants arise. Lock everything down again in Sept.

Does nobody remember last summer?

Wilkolampshade · 02/08/2021 19:17

@Changechangychange but we have a largely vaccinated population now? So not the same, surely?
Having said that, I do agree varients are inevitable and there will be plenty of faux horror and regret flying around.. (alas a lack etc) But we just have no way of knowing how harmful they may be. If at all.

OP posts:
Changechangychange · 02/08/2021 19:45

Oh I’m not saying we shouldn’t open up - just that BJ will feign complete astonishment when cases rise afterwards.

We are vaccinated now and by your logic, we will remain under travel restriction for years to come, possibly forever.

Now from a climate pov, that would be a good thing.

Okey doke.
Now what?

OP posts:
Changechangychange · 02/08/2021 19:50

@Boarderingmadness I am not saying we should not open up.

I am saying “does nobody remember last summer” because I think Boris’s actions this summer (what the OP was asking us about) are likely to be exactly the same as his actions last summer. Probably try to reuse the same tired jokes as well.

newnortherner111 · 02/08/2021 20:12

Does there Prime Minister know himself?

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 02/08/2021 20:17

It means do what the fuck you want but if/when it goes tits up don't come blaming us for not being stricter, it's all your own fault because we gave vague statements that we'll maintain were clear instructions and it's not our fault you didn't listen.

Wilkolampshade · 02/08/2021 20:25

@IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves has it, I think.

OP posts:
SpringRainbow · 02/08/2021 20:29

To be honest I didn’t have a credible source, just what someone was telling me earlier.

Although they seem to have been right.

What this means though who knows.
