When did fatigue pass for you?

Hi,

I'm in desperate need of reassurance really. Tested positive ten days ago. Thankfully all symptoms have gone apart from crippling fatigue which is literally killing me. I can't function. I can't do anything and I have 2 toddlers. Please tell me this will pass soon!! If anybody has experienced fatigue since coronavirus when did it start getting better??

I have no advice for you as I'm only on day 2 of testing positive! I am extremely exhausted too and have 14 month old! I'm very interested in hearing when the fatigue usually passes Smile hope you feel better soon!

I asked my mum this as I am also anxious about it. She said about two weeks to get back to normal energy levels. I'm currently exactly two weeks in and feel tired today but I think that's because I attempted a jog yesterday. Afterwards someone told me they've monitored athletes after covid and its easy to set yourself back so stay away from any respiratory type exercise for a while. V frustrating for me as I use cardio instead of anti depressants. The jog was manageable yesterday but v tired today and tight chest again.

Don't exercise!! Caused myself terribly problems trying to exercise after Covid. Taking it easy is the fastest way to recover.

I wish I could exercise but I just can't bring myself to do it. I feel ok in the morning then come midday I feel like I've been hit by a bus and collapse on the couch. X

I'm not sure it has completely, and I'm 14 months on!!

The crippling fatigue lasted 3 months and then I started getting a little better gradually, but I still don't feel like I'm where I was before.

Your thyroid function may be (temporarily) depressed. Certainly don't exercise unnecessarily and get plenty of good food and rest. Hope you feel better soon! I have an underactive thyroid and totally understand how you feel.

@lindaellen 3 months!!! How did you cope??? Honestly I'm so tired it's like my brain isn't working. I'm like blank I can't even string a sentence along I'm just that tired. I feel terrible in my kids spending summer holidays sitting indoors.

Still get some fatigue 16 months in, but it was worst for the first 7 months (on and off).

From my experience I would advise not exercising until you have been symptom free for 6 weeks. It seems to cause relapses and prolong symptoms.

It took me a fair few weeks to get back to normal and my husband is still suffering with long covid.
Just rest as much as you can, bare minimum house work, easy cook food, no strenuous trips out and go easy on yourself and let your body heal.
In the long run a messy house and extra screen time for the DC won't matter but your health does. Blush I hope you feel better soon it will pass I promise.

@Mucky1 that's very reassuring to hear. I'm really Down thinking will I ever get better and so many people seem to be suffering for months, I don't know how I would manage. My Partner has to go back to work Wednesday so it will just be me and the kids x

I started to improve after 2 weeks - before that, every day was just the same. Then I improved daily, and it took another 2-3 weeks before I would say I was back to normal.

I’m 57 and have a bunch of risk factors.

16 months in and I still have it but it's much better than it was. Still can't work F/T or do any 'proper' exercise but I can live my life again thankfully.

I was completely crippled by it for 3 months then able to do some bits and bobs and gradually improved. Now at about 85% previous capacity.

The only advice I have is absolute rest (yes I know, that seems impossible) but you do not want long Covid as it is * awful. Avoid at all costs.

Also there are lots of my friends who have had it after the vaccine who have said 2-3 weeks feeling exhausted / rough then it lifted so hopefully it's not going to be months and months (if vaccinated)...

My experience was 4 weeks from start to finish before I felt I had got through the virus and had sufficiently recovered my energy levels.

As others have mentioned, the worst thing you can do is to try to 'power' through the disease like you might a cold as it affects your lungs and breathing capacity. I made myself worse by doing this and was on the brink of seeking some help from the NHS before it improved again.

Listen and follow what your body is telling and definitely take the time to rest and recover. I phased my return to work over five days to build up my energy levels so I could cope with working again full time.

With difficulty. I just worked and slept. Fortunately I don’t have children and work wasn’t busy when I was at my worst.

Rest as much as you can for longer than you think you need.

It is likely to pass within a few weeks at most so try not to worry. Just don't exercise or try to do too much until you are sure you are better.

I really wish though that the people who dismiss long Covid would understand that a proportion of those infected ( around 5%.I think ) feel like this for months , though it generally does get get better even for them though very slowly and in fits and starts . It is no joke

I’m entering week 4 and feeling bit better have been trying to take as much nutrients on, drinking vegetable juices etc and taking multivitamins but also going to bed really early. Have a little one too plus heavily pregnant. Take things as easy as you can.

Nearly 18 months and counting. I am pretty sure I went beyond soul destroying and I bit new, uncharted territory months ago. It’s just not getting any better.

(Take from that what you will. You are likely to feel better within a few months, statistically. And although I have horrendous fatigue I can currently manage to work 20 hours per week and run 2-3 times per week. If I do anything it her than those two things it’s game over for weeks - paint a room? Out of the game for a fortnight. One extra short run? Nope. Out with friend for a few hours? Pay for it for 3 weeks. And so on. But at least I can work part time and exercise a couple of times a week).
