When will CEV get booster jabs?

30 replies

Lagirl20 · 30/07/2021 23:54

There’s been silence on this front since the gov announcement at the start of July. Someone must know something? When is the booster programme starting. When can we book appointments. There seems to be walk in, no questions asked vaccination events all over the country at the moment. Will it be like this for boosters, too?

I expect the process will be similar to the initial vaccine rollout. People will be called forward for the booster in line with when they received their 1st jabs, ie those who had their 1st in Jan will be called 1st to ensure that no ones vaccine efficacy is reducing whilst others are getting "topped up" who don't really need it yet. Talk in the background suggests maybe from September but nothing is certain yet. The focus at the moment is getting the younger adults vaccinated

DH is not CEV just in the 60-65 age group and got a text from his GP last week saying from September. He had his 2 original vaccinations at the GP.

nether · 31/07/2021 06:43

No announcement yet made.

It's expected it'll begin with Group 1 (old groups 1-4) in September, followed by Group 2 (old groups 5 - 9)

www.gov.uk/government/news/jcvi-issues-interim-advice-on-covid-19-booster-vaccination

It's not clear how people will be called forward, as much of groups 1, 2, 3 and 6 are not related to age so it might not be straightforward to release bookings nationally.

Walk in centres are beginning to close round here. One has gone completely, another is a more established centre that had gone back to appointment only. Also the one that was invitation via group of local GP practices only has now gone.

SpringRainbow · 31/07/2021 07:23

Yes, I am expecting it will be similar to the roll out last time.

I suspect at the moment they are trying their hardest to get as many over 18s vaccinated as soon as they can.

A lot of the messaging at the moment is targeted at those who are hesitant about the vaccine. Especially those who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Daimyum · 31/07/2021 07:23

I had a 'shielding letter' yesterday. It said i will be contacted in September for a flu and 3rd covid vax

Lagirl20 · 31/07/2021 19:30

Thanks everyone! Fingers crossed it’s September then

It was in our local paper today that one surgery has started the booster jabs already. Hopefully it won't be long.

Wow, amazing! Which local area or paper is this?

Ive booked my flu jab independently (free at boots as vulneravle) for sept as aware these can go quickly depending on whcih surgery starts when.

Haven't heard anything about boosters.

DumplingsAndStew · 01/08/2021 02:33

@nether

As far as I can see, groups 5-9 are not all being offered a booster in stage 2. Just those who are CEV.

@Daimyum

Are people being advised to shield again?

GiantToadstool · 01/08/2021 06:20

Ah really? I had thought it was going to be offered wider (eg obese/other known risk factors and flu jab lot). I'm group 6 . Ho hum!

GiantToadstool · 01/08/2021 06:26

I found this on the gov website from the jcvi. Looks like 2 groups but doesn't say if/when they'd get to group 2.

Also do we know if we have vaccine (as countries like oz dont have enough do they?) Or if we can have a different vaccine to first time...

When will CEV get booster jabs?
Darbs76 · 01/08/2021 07:45

I’d imagine it will be done in the same way, and they will give flu vaccinations at the same time. I was in group 6 but in no rush as I’m just recovering from Covid so hoping I’ve got good antibodies now after 2 vaccines and a dose of the virus

DinosaurDiana · 01/08/2021 07:47

I’ve been told, at work, that they are planning on people getting flu and booster at the same time.

DinosaurDiana · 01/08/2021 07:48

They want the 12-16 CEV doing before September.

Pissinthepottyplease · 01/08/2021 07:54

@GiantToadstool oz have enough vaccine but people over their don’t want it.

DH had his not shielding letter. I think it said something about avoiding the unvaccinated as he made a joke about avoid our children but I wasn’t really listening!

polkadotpixie · 01/08/2021 08:01

We've been told September at work

TheVampiresWife · 01/08/2021 09:25

My consultant told me last week that I'd be getting mine with my flu jab, from the GP. They usually roll out from mid September.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 01/08/2021 09:31

*GiantToadstooloz have enough vaccine but people over their don’t want it.

Same as over here then, we have/had buckets of AZ that nobody wants

herecomesthsun · 01/08/2021 10:14

@DinosaurDiana

They want the 12-16 CEV doing before September.
"they" have authorised a portion of CEV 12-15 to be vaccinated - and then put that on hold.

There does not seem to be a coherent plan for this.

Daimyum · 01/08/2021 10:17

Dumplingsandstew
I have no idea how to tag..

Not been told to shield again in the letter, it says they're hoping to go to alert 0 on Aug 7th. That I (cev) need to continue the 2 metre distancing and limit contacts still.

Quite difficult to distance when the rest of the country think they don't have to anymore. I live in an area of Wales that's heaving with tourists.

It says regards the vax:
The joint committee on vaccination and immunisation has announced an autumn booster campaign will begin in Sept 21, to maximise protection in those who are most vulnerable to serious infection, ahead of the winter months. Adults aged 16 years and over who are considered to be clinically extremely vulnerable are part of stage 1 and will be offered a third dose covid-19 booster vaccine, alongside their annual influenza vaccine, as soon as possible from Sept 21.

I hope other groups may also be called forward, like nhs staff, in the same order as they rolled out the vaccines at the begining. Same as the pic 'gianttoadstool' shared.

wowzaa · 01/08/2021 10:24

Since the JCVI statement in early July there has been no further update, as data analysis is going on in the background.

Some trusts are preparing to offer boosters from 7 September but it’s important to note that this is because a campaign of this size does take a lot of planning. So they are doing the planning now so that if/when the campaign is confirmed, they are ready to go.

wowzaa · 01/08/2021 10:25

The joint committee on vaccination and immunisation has announced an autumn booster campaign will begin in Sept 21

Clearly some Trusts have jumped the gun, as ^the JCVI has not yet announced this.’

Although it is very likely, it is not actually confirmed yet.

SpindleWhorl · 01/08/2021 10:45

@PheasantsNest

It was in our local paper today that one surgery has started the booster jabs already. Hopefully it won't be long.
That article says the surgery is taking future bookings for the flu and covid boosters, subject to them actually being available at the time - they're not actually jabbing people yet.

It'll be a right faff if the booster doesn't materialise in time for their clinics, but I can understand why they want to try and get organised in advance.

My GP surgery has been a bloody shambles. I'm CEV and found a nice quiet pharmacy in the end.
