Is test and trace still a thing?

I went out for dinner last week and they told me that rividing my details was optional. I don't have the app. I just wondered if test and trace is still a thing seeing how you don't have to give your details in some places?

Sorry if this is a stupid question! I try and stay away from the Covid news etc!

It is, but most people have deleted the app or don't give details because it's so flawed.

I just don't really understand it. If it's optional on cafes etc, is it optional at the gym? I'm confused!
I'm reluctant to rejoin the gym because of the risk of isolating but I so want to go back!
I am double jabbed but my family are vulnerable so I just feel trapped!

I think individual companies are opting to do what they want- but a gym is quite different to a restaurant, if you're a member they'll have your details anyway presumably.

It’s no longer law to have to provide your names / email address or check in to venues, it’s optional for the business. Track & trace is still a thing, I spoke to them yesterday to report my daughters contacts (she’s the 3rd in our house to get Covid). If you’re in close contact with a friend / colleague with Covid you’ll be contacted by them to be told to isolate. From mid August you will no longer have to isolate if you’re in close contact with a positive person if you’re double jabbed

I went out to lunch last weekend and the cafe had a sign up asking people to scan in with the app or leave your details manually. I didn't do either and wasn't challenged

Even when it wasn't optional if you checked into a venue all you would get was a message saying someone else had been in the same venue that day and tested positive - you didn't have to isolate, it just recommended a PCR if you had symptoms and a LFT if not.

My daughter got one for a day we had gone to the theatre in June (she checked in on the app for both of us) - it was a Saturday and there had been a matinee so may not have even been the same show plus all the seating was socially distant as well as wearing masks!
