If test and trace contact you when on holiday…

Just wondering as am off on holiday shortly, if test and trace contact you while you are on holiday (either abroad or in this country) can you isolate where you are? I have train tickets booked for a holiday and have return tickets for a specific date so would struggle to get home before that date, if test and trace contacted me when I was on holiday to say one of us had been near a positive contact what would I do?

But don’t people currently have to test daily if they are in a job where they don’t have to isolate?

User56439876 · 30/07/2021 08:27

@Nomorepies

It's not a withheld number- it comes up on your phone saying NHS Track and Trace. Did on mine anyway.
Like the Royal Mail, HMRC and Hermes ones then...
MummytoGeorgie · 30/07/2021 10:45

@Unsure33 a virus with a 99.7% survival rate. I'm not scared. I'd ignore it, mind you I don't even put real details in for track and trace. It's all just a bit of a joke.

Yes, and (I think) they also have to act like we all did when we were in lockdown, so only going out to work, for essential shopping/banking etc and outdoor exercise.
deplorabelle · 30/07/2021 17:29

You could develop symptoms on holiday so you still need a plan if that happens (and in that scenario you'd be grateful you hadn't thrown the phone in the sea Hmm

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 31/07/2021 08:06

I’ve never gone on holiday with a plan in case I’m ill and I’m not starting now! I’ll deal with it if it happens

Helenluvsrob · 31/07/2021 08:11

Who knows - most holiday let’s want you out of you test positive but isolating ?

What happens if you’ve got there by train ? Especially if you test positive ….

Equally go abroad and need to isolate ? Beyond end of holiday ?? Can you fly back ? Again can’t fly back if test positive …

Well people would just have to get public transport home wouldn’t they? Or sleep under a hedge for 10 days. There is literally no other option if you lose your holiday accommodation, can’t use public transport or a hotel, and don’t have a car. The idea that lots of families are actually booking private transport costing hundreds of pounds is laughable.

More likely is that people on their hols might get symptoms but not get pcr tested. Why would they? They’ve had 18 months of putting others first. What possible benefit is it to them to get a positive pcr result while away?

Sunflowergirl1 · 31/07/2021 08:31

Just ignore any calls from u known numbers...that's what most people are doing that I know as even Covid secure measures a d keeping distance doesn't buggers from trying to contact you...pisses me off when double jabbed as well.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 31/07/2021 12:25

If a person did decide to self isolate at their holiday let, I doubt the owners could stop them. Obviously you couldn't overstay your let time because that wouldn't be fair on the next clients but if self catering accommodation, you've paid for it and could do what suited you. If it had a pool and was nice, there are worse places to chill and wait it out. Got to be better than going home on a train!

But some people can't even book private transport.

I can't drive and I can't cycle (before MNers jump on, I have a disability that makes both difficult, trust me, you don't want me on the road). Am I supposed to hike back on foot through the countryside and along motorways? Because, that won't end badly...

It says they can email you as well. I don't know if they're smart enough to do this, but it is possible to send emails that can track if you've actually opened them.

I think ignoring being contacted is not a viable option. I am curious however as to what the Government thinks people who don't drive are supposed to do!

rookiemere · 31/07/2021 16:10

I suppose for those who haven't driven to their destination and don't want to pay for a taxi home, they are still likely to infect less people ( if positive) by taking public transport with a mask on in the awareness they could be infectious, rather than continuing with holiday plans. It's not an ideal solution though, but I'm not sure what is.

The advice specifically excludes taking taxis - so that's not an option either!

I could easily go a week without checking emails if I was on holiday. I can't think of anything that couldn't wait a week

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 31/07/2021 18:25

Sorry, I meant for me, I know other peoples circumstances are different

Exactly the same as dh. He could legally cycle but with his medical condition it would be very unwise for all concerned.

Maybe everyone not going on holiday by car should bring their own tent and 10 days army rations just to be on the safe side.

Stop giving people ideas! No doubt posters on here would think that's an excellent idea!
JustLoveYourselfALittle · 31/07/2021 22:57

Don't answer phone.
I never answer unless I know who it is.
So if I've ever got a call I wouldn't know.

JustLoveYourselfALittle · 31/07/2021 22:59

And as for emails. How would they get email address? I'm sure none of my friends even know it. I only use it for bills etc.

memberofthewedding · 01/08/2021 00:58

Better still dont use a smart phone. They are the devils invention! No one can text me and I have voicemail switched off on my landline. Life still goes on.

You'd like to think they've linked up systems. My email address is linked to my full name, DOB, address, NHS number... I'm not exactly hard to trace.

Frankly, I'm not sure what other option there is.

I'm not actually planning on going on holiday anytime soon, partly because of this. I just honestly don't know they expect non-drivers to do.
