Just wondering as am off on holiday shortly, if test and trace contact you while you are on holiday (either abroad or in this country) can you isolate where you are? I have train tickets booked for a holiday and have return tickets for a specific date so would struggle to get home before that date, if test and trace contacted me when I was on holiday to say one of us had been near a positive contact what would I do?

On iPhones you can block unknown numbers and switch your voicemail off.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 29/07/2021 08:06

You can legally ignore text and email, but not a call. Don't open the email and they won't know you've even seen the notification.

kimlo · 29/07/2021 08:09

you can't legally ignore a text or email. Thats being contacted by test and trace. It's only app pings that are advisory not law.

Pissedoff1234 · 29/07/2021 08:11

How on earth do you get home without using public transport if you haven't driven to your destination and can't drive. Even with all the money in the world at your own expense, it's impossible.

Imnothereforthedrama · 29/07/2021 08:16

Honestly I’d ignore, in a couple of weeks you won’t need to isolate anyway .

If you don't open it, how do they know it's been received?
Remmy123 · 29/07/2021 09:02

Dont answer the phone!!

Well, given that it's not legally enforceable to have to check all texts/emails/voicemails (or even have a device which offers these things), then you can ignore them and leave them unopened.

Yes it's not possible. And even if you could drive you'd still need to go to the loo on the way home.

I never take my phone when I go on holiday abroad. Seriously considering not taking it when we go to Wales in august.

I wish we could stay away from people for the week before just to be safe but DH and I are both working so Ds2 has to go to nursery and ds2 is off to grandparents.

I think they should just say you have to be tested if a close contact. Getting people to isolate for potentially no reason and ruining holidays and stopping people going to work is just not sustainable for the country any longer.

kimlo · 29/07/2021 09:35

my daughter was in contact with someone who tested positive on a lateral flow but because it wasn't a pcr so not legally enforcable they didn't isolate.

My daughter has now tested positive and I've had to cancel a very important hospital appointment for the possible cancer I'm being investigated for.

This is what happens when people try to find loopholes and reasons why they don't have to do it.

rookiemere · 29/07/2021 10:05

I'm sorry about your missed appointment @kimlo , but the issue there was that the person with the positive lateral flow didn't follow up with a PCR test as you're meant to.

That's very different from being notified that you've been in contact when you have no symptoms and test negative.

I would judge someone with symptoms not testing and then isolating if positive but that's a different scenario.

kimlo · 29/07/2021 10:18

not really. Testing negative doesn't mean you wont develop it and you aren't just too early to test positive. And switching your phone off, blocking the number or ignoring texts and emails isn't getting a pcr anyway.

You never know the effect you are going to have on someone else.

Paddingtonsmarmlade · 29/07/2021 10:21

Turn your phone off you’re on holiday. I think the rules are make your way home if you can do so without using public transport. If not isolate at the holiday home.

OliveTree75 · 29/07/2021 10:24

I agree, turn your phone off whilst away.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 29/07/2021 10:26

The person who got the positive LFT should have immediately booked a PCR. Why didnt they?

kimlo · 29/07/2021 10:32

probably the same reason they didn't isolate as soon as they had a positive lateral flow and sent the child in to school.

didn't want to miss work, didn't beleive it, thought it didn't matter. Who knows.

ineedaholidaynow · 29/07/2021 10:38

So all those people saying turn off the phone/don’t answer and now judging the person with positive LFT, how many of you are doing regular LFTs?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 29/07/2021 11:01

I'm not doin LFTs and I don't judge anyone else for not doing them either. I've had 3 PCRs when I had potential symptoms (all negative).

rainbowandglitter · 29/07/2021 11:35

I've just been contacted by test and trace. They send you a text message so you can't ignore it by not answering calls.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 29/07/2021 12:16

Does it say it's from T&T or is it just a number?

They say they are from NHStracing
User56439876 · 29/07/2021 12:45

DF hasn't got a phone and doesn't use email so they would have a job texting him.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 29/07/2021 13:29

There have been lots of scam calls from people claiming to be from NHS. How would you know it's genuine?
Easiest solution is to leave the phone at home

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 29/07/2021 13:31

My only worry about leaving the phone at home is if we break down on the way or have an issue with the cottage when we get there. I might just turn it off and look at it when I get home
