Are you seeing a spike in your hospital admissions? Are there more younger people coming in now as the media suggests?

I am. There’s an increase in our trust, yes. Far fewer critical cases. The bulk of those needing ICU are unvaccinated or vaccinated but with serious co-morbidities.

80% of our admissions are unvaccinated or single dosed, so we are seeing young people because of that. However, the vast majority just need some oxygen support for a few days & then are on their way. 20% are vaccinated but predominantly 60+. Again, most never get anywhere near critical but it’s not nice being ill obviously.

My own DD was in hospital yesterday & the paediatric doctor said they are heaving with children at the moment, but not covid. They are basically seeing a delayed winter. All the chest illnesses, RSV, bronchilitis, pneumonia plus complications from norovirus & rotavirus. He said pandemic babies (which my little girl is) are having the toughest time as their immune systems are basically non existent because of lockdown. Covid has so many impacts 😓

Shitfuckcommaetc · 28/07/2021 10:39

Yes, seeing the same as @Bobholll

VaccineAnxiety · 28/07/2021 10:47

@Bobholll Thank you and hope your little one is sent back home soon. do you record if they are vaccinated unvaccinated? Yes as you said there are so many impacts because of this pandemic…mental health being the other one

Are the unvaccinated crucially ill?

Vaccine status is in the patient's health record, which the medics can access; it will already be recorded.

Yes, lots of little ones with resp illness. RSV, Croup, Bronchiolitis. Admitted a teen the other day with Covid Pneumonitis, quite sick. Only 14 so not vaccinated.

And covid admissions are on the increase. Haven’t been at work for a week so can’t comment on numbers. Last time I was in we had 22 total covid admissions, and something like 3 of them on ICU. Those numbers could have increased dramatically since I’ve been in. It’s a medium sized district general hospital.
