Am going away at weekend and trying to get my head around what is needed. I am completely confused now about quarantine. This is what it says on government website about amber countries. But it is not what I understood to be the case. Thought I needed to quarantine fir 10 days. Can anyone help?

What you must do if you’re fully vaccinated

If you’ve been in an amber list country (and have not been in or passed through a red list country, or France) in the 10 days before you arrive in England, and you have been fully vaccinated under the UK vaccination programme:

you must book and take a COVID-19 travel test on or before day 2 after you arrive (the day you arrive is day 0)

you do not have to quarantine on arrival

Even if you’re fully vaccinated, you will need to quarantine for 10 days if your day 2 test is positive, or if NHS Test and Trace tell you that you travelled to England with someone who has tested positive.

That looks like - if you're fully vaccinated you don't have to quarantine as long as you take a Covid test on the first or second day after you come back.
If it's positive then you follow the usual guidelines and self isolate for 10 days.

That's new! When did that change.

If you're fully vaccinated you only need to do 10 days self isolation from Amber countries if:

  • you come back from France ( Amber plus)
  • or you get a positive test or are identified through T&T at any point

I have just come back from an amber country (Spain), and am fully vaccinated. I had to:
Take a pcr test before leaving Spain. I was able to do this in the resort we were staying, cost 30 euros
Complete a passenger locator form, on govt website, before leaving Spain.
Book a Day 2 test, f to be taken on or before day 2 after return home. I had to complete details of this test on the passenger locator form above. I ordered one I could do at home and It was delivered by DPD to my home address before I arrived back. Cost £43.

I didn't have to quarantine unless the day 2 test came back positive.

Hope that helps, it's a bit of a faff!

Brilliant. Thanks so much all for clarifying and for giving your experience! It really helps. Going away for work and am just going to keep as far from others as I can! More chance of catching it here, I reckon.
