Do we have to isolate again? Positive case in household

DD (5) got her positive Covid result, symptoms started on Friday. DH and I had it recently - his isolation ended a week ago, mine ended on Wednesday. Do DH and I now have to isolate again? How quickly can you re-catch it, could we catch it again from DD so soon? Sad

Yes I think you do.

Helenluvsrob · 25/07/2021 12:13

Yep

cantkeepawayforever · 25/07/2021 12:14

Yes, you have to isolate again. Had her symptoms started within your isolation period, then you would not have had to isolate again, but symptoms after the end of your isolation mean that everyone has to restart.

WaterBottle123 · 25/07/2021 12:14

No you don't as your isolation overlapped DD's symptomatic period

Noterook · 25/07/2021 12:14

At the moment yes, and as PCR tests can show as positive for up to 6 months there isn't really a way to take one for release from isolation. Hopefully it changes to something more reasonable soon, as if someone has just had it then seems silly.

Smartiepants79 · 25/07/2021 12:16

It’s extremely unlikely you would get it again within a week so I wouldn’t be worrying about that.
I think unfortunately that the rules seem to be that you still have to isolate however. Which is very crap. I’m not 100% sure as the timings are so close together??!! I can’t find any specific guidance for your situation. This might suggest not??

No - OP states her isolation ended Wednesday, and child's symptoms started Friday.
Iggly · 25/07/2021 12:18

She may have caught it from you? Sadly because they’ve reduced the window to ten days, yes you start again (it used to be 14 days!)

BlueSurfer · 25/07/2021 12:19

It’s ridiculous but yes, you do need to isolate again even though it’s not unrealistic to think she caught it from you.

MrsPsmalls · 25/07/2021 12:23

Yes you definitely do and this very same thing happened to me. was isolating nearly a month in total as isolation was two weeks back then. obviously I only had it once.

Imnothereforthedrama · 25/07/2021 12:37

No you don’t as you’ve done the 10 days , only the person tested positive needs to unless others have symptoms. The same happened in our household so I asked test and trace .

CeeceeBloomingdale · 25/07/2021 12:39

Yes, if it's after the 10 days of your isolation it's counted as a separate episode.

IF the second person had symptoms during the first person's isolation period, then only the second person would need to extend the isolation.

If the second person's symptoms do not start until after the first person's isolation period - which is the case here, as OP emerged from isolation on Weds and her child started symptoms on Friday - then everyone isolates again.

ShortBacknSides · 25/07/2021 12:41

Do DH and I now have to isolate again?

OF COURSE YOU DO.

You may be guilty of asymptomatic spread, even if you are not showing any symptoms.

I thought it was 90 days they could continue to show up positive, not 6 months?
coffeepleeease · 25/07/2021 12:53

I've just rang 119 and the person I spoke to said we don't have to. I made sure to repeat the days when DH and I stopped isolating and triple checked. Husband is now calling to check again!

Family143 · 25/07/2021 12:53

No you don't. The same thing happened to my son but within him and flatmates and we were unsure as we couldn't seem to find guidance that related to his situation. He was positive and completed his isolation and then a week after it finished the remaining two housemates tested positive. I phoned 119 for clarification and they said he didn't have to isolate again. If you're unsure I would phone them.

It doesn't surprise me, I mean if they don't know the rules how are we meant to! So frustrating.

Just don't know what to do now. Ring for advice and now I'm even more confused !

Ring again and go with the majority verdict!

What a shambles!

Imnothereforthedrama · 25/07/2021 13:04

You rang they said no so you rang again and they said yes ? Suppose that means it depends on who you ask. Up to you I wouldn’t especially if you’ve already had it .

FookSake · 25/07/2021 13:06

Yes, as you haven’t had it and you are exposed to your DD you have to isolate for the 10 days from when her symptoms started as you are still at risk of getting it from her the next 10 days.

Yup! DH was surprised and wanted to double check because of going to work, to be told the opposite to me Hmm
