What to do if symptoms arise while away from home but in the UK

DH, 2 older teen/adult DCs and I are going away next Saturday for 8 days. We will be camping/caravanning but at least 6-8 hour drive from home. If any of us were to get symptoms while we were away, should we stay put and isolate or come home and isolate? My worry would be if we needed to get petrol on the way home I suppose. We can drive without stopping if needed so technically isolating in the car! If we stayed we can get food delivered but not sure whether we could stay if the isolation time goes over our booked dates which it would even if it happened the day after we arrived.

I’m probably overthinking it and it may not happen. We’ll be careful not to go anywhere too busy anyway and we are still wearing masks.

I would fill up the car with petrol upon arrival and drive home to isolate in the comfort of your home, especially since it always seems worse to be ill elsewhere.

You don't want to deal with covid while camping. We're in the middle of plastering the bedroom so are sleeping on a sofa bed which is bad enough.

Good point @BlueSurfer, I had thought we should make sure we keep the car as full of fuel as we can.

We are going away and discussed that if anyone gets symptoms we book a test near home pack up and drive home straight away. So just make sure you get petrol as soon as you arrive

Thanks all. We’ll have the contingency to come home if needed. Hope you all stay healthy if you’re going away!

Don’t forget that if one of you tests positive and then another one goes down with symptoms towards the end of the isolation period, they then start a new two days of isolation. It’s unlikely but potentially someone in your group could be isolating for weeks.
