Mask-less on Avanti

I’m on a very busy train heading to Manchester, there’s so many people not wearing masks but at least keeping to themselves.

There’s also a large group of very jolly young men who are not just mask-free but also shouting and standing up - maybe a wedding party.

Train operators just letting them be as there’s nothing they can do. I’m glad I’m not sitting next to them but really tempted to video the little buffoons.

Biscuit

I'd be tempted too. But have Avanti not got their own mask mandate?
Sorry you're having to put up with them.

giletrouge · 23/07/2021 12:57

Why biscuit? Poor woman's on a train with a load of maskless eejits.

Wooollffff · 23/07/2021 13:01

Urghh. I was on an Avanti on Monday and most people were wearing masks, even though it was boiling hot and the aircon wasn’t working.

Off on another trip this afternoon, I will see if anything has changed!

CeeJay81 · 23/07/2021 13:01

Im on a avanti but just left a Edinburgh, so masks are on mostly on. Once we get to carlisle it'll change as did on way up. Avanti go by the countries, so not mandatory in England. No shouting on here thankfully.

SerendipitousMe · 23/07/2021 13:02

Apparently Avanti can do nothing as masks are no longer compulsory. They’re not “just” maskless, they’re shouting and celebrating, standing up. They’re like kids on a school trip, only in their twenties/thirties.

This is the last time I’ll be getting a train to go up north. Shame as I hate the long drive but can’t put my old relatives in extra danger.

Why biscuit? For filming random people and presumably posting it on some form of social media? This achieves what?

I suspect the OP is using "no masks" as a proxy for being pissed off by a raucous party group. Rather than filming people (to what end?) Just move carriage.

And before people jump on saying "tell guard", again to do what? Ask people to reply to a "polite request" from the government and the train Co to wear masks?

woodfort · 23/07/2021 13:03

If they are drinking and swearing or shouting offensive things I can understand filming and shaming them .. but you haven’t said anything that they aren’t allowed to do? They’re just .. being happy?

eandz13 · 23/07/2021 13:03

Oh for Christ's sake 🤦🏻‍♀️

SerendipitousMe · 23/07/2021 13:07

Rosehip, what are you on about? No I didn’t shoot them but only said I’m tempted to.

I don’t care about them being raucous, they’re just jolly - but shouting happily and moving within the central corridor only makes them emit more spit and breath.

They sound like they're having a good time.

Good for them.

Rosehip10 · 23/07/2021 13:14

So what do you want? They are not using masks and agree with the government or not, they no longer have to, despite "requests".

So you can either try and move carriages, if the train is packed you can ask guard and say you are uncomfortable in that carriage and see if they can seat you somewhere else. Other than that you can do nothing.

I wear maks myself still, but your views on this don't override the current laws on mask wearing, even if (in your opinion) people are selfish.

SerendipitousMe · 23/07/2021 13:16

I guess this is where all the mask-less avengers congregate, so I’ll step off. Bye-bye and good luck to the freedom lovers 🤣
