I think the only way to get people who don’t want something is to tell them they can’t have it.

Why are we wasting such resources, and more importantly vaccine doses that could be used by the rest of the world, to wait for people to decide to have it?

Already happening in Belfast. Presumably people can still book them via their GP if needed

I guess OP's thinking is that if we put a deadline on it, everyone who is currently on the fence will suddenly want it, because they'll be worried that they can't have it further down the line

It's a psychology that marketers think works when they put messages on websites saying "only three left" or "offer ends soon" or "15 people looking at this hotel" to "panic" people into buying things.

With that in mind, I can kind of see the OP's point. It would be easy enough to say only those turning 18/16/whatever age is eventually decided or who have had covid in the last three months can have first doses after September 1st.

@woodfort

*We are doing under 50,000 first doses per day. And this number will continue to fall.

This is less than 0.01% of our population per day. In 100 days we will have done 1% more of our total population.*

Huh? Population of the U.K. is nearly 70m isn’t it? How is 100 x 50,000 (5m) 1%? It’s nearer 10% and probably is 10% of the adult population.

Eh??? You can't just multiply at random by 100! Look at it the other way if it's hard to visualise the number: 68m people in the UK; 10% is 6.8m, 1% is 680,000, 0.1% is 68,000. 50,000 first doses per day is just under 0.1% of adults and over a 30-day month would add up to 3%.

Now your turn, I went back to see who said this.
50,000 is not 0.01% of 68 million. It's 0.0735% of the whole population, and in 100 days that's 7.35%. It's also an implausible 9.25% of the adult population, i.e. nearly everyone who can physically be given the jab. Delightful though that is to think of, it's vanishingly unlikely that coverage will reach that level.

Some of us want the vaccine but can't have it now for various reasons. I am currently pregnant, not due until 8th October and then I will have the first dose of vaccine that I'm entitled to. Jesus what is wrong with you?

5 million doses being given to poorer countries in the next 2 months, 30 million by the end of the year. 95 million doses over the next year.

France .. half a million...
