Very worried child temp

Hi, my ds10 has been fine all day. About 4pm he said he was cold (weird given the weather). At 5.30 said he feels sick, headache and has no energy at all. Not been out in the sun really all day.
Please could you let me know your kids Covid symptoms? I am worried about him, temperature going from 38.6-39 and back.
Thank you

Is this real???

No way would a hospital discharge someone who had a fever of 43! They'd be in ITU or more likely dead!

beenbotheringme · 23/07/2021 22:38

If your son really had a temperature of 43.5c then he shouldn't have been discharged. I would be taking him back to hospital straight away.

Workinghardeveryday · 23/07/2021 22:42

No bloods taken other than finger prick. If no better he will take him. I have a dd15, ds is a twin, never have I know temperature like this!

@hotasharibo no he was discharged at 37.7. But thanks relieved my intense worry

Thinking of you OP. It's so horrible when children are ill. Hope the temp comes down soon and the PCR results come back soon as well.

My DD tends to get high temperatures. She has been at 41 quite regularly. The GP calculated how much calpol she could have by her weight and turns out it was double what's on the label. I'm not saying you should do that but make sure you are keeping up with paracetamol regularly.

Workinghardeveryday · 23/07/2021 22:51

@Kittenss thanks you, good to know to discuss with doctor. He has had more calpol, back down to 37.5! Fingers crossed it stays down x

That’s scary! Hope you all feel better soon

Backofbeyond50 · 23/07/2021 22:57

Hope it stays down op.

hedgehogger1 · 23/07/2021 23:03

If there's no other COVID symptoms did they do a urine test? My DS had similarly high temps with a urine infection ( but they don't expect them in boys)

hedgehogger1 · 23/07/2021 23:05

Was he not discharged with open access. The many times we've been in, we've had a letter to get us past A&E and straight back into the ward

idontlikealdi · 23/07/2021 23:07

43.5? That's ridiculous. I hope he recovers soon.

unidentifed · 23/07/2021 23:09

There's no way his temp was 43.5, OP. There must be something wrong with the thermometer. No dr would allow him to be discharged after that either. Hope he turns a corner soon x

beckypv · 23/07/2021 23:13

I think you need to be writing down all the temperature patterns and mediation you are giving. It is so useful to see a pattern. My son (8) had high temperatures and then acute leg pain for 5 days (got a pcr on day 1 which helped us access healthcare subsequently). 111 sent an ambulance and once they took bloods his crp was 315 which is extremely high. Turns out he had a Staph infection in his blood which lead to osteomyelitis in his leg and he spent 3 weeks in hospital on iv antibiotics. I hope you get to the bottom it. I think 5 days of continuous temp is often used as a criteria for further investigation and full blood tests are very helpful at that point. Good luck

Kittenss · 24/07/2021 08:27

How is he this morning?

Workinghardeveryday · 24/07/2021 15:55

His temperature was up and down in the night but didn’t go above 38.8. Been 36.6 all morning then about one 37, gave calpol and came down, back up to 37.4 now. Just wish I knew what it was and why it’s happening.
I made him get up at 11!

@Workinghardeveryday what you describe sounds typical for any kind of infection.

Hopefully you have the covid result back soon.

Workinghardeveryday · 24/07/2021 18:25

@Whathefisgoingon sorry, forgot to say Covid test came back about 5 this morning, negative.
He seems fine in himself, apart from not wanting to eat. He has eaten though, so tonight he had boiled eggs and soldiers but only so he could mess on with the shells! But he did eat 2 eggs.
He seems himself, then temperature rockets and he is cold and shivering. It’s very strange!

Did they check for tonsillitis OP? My DD has had it 3x this year & had some shocking temps with it. She’s been really quite poorly at times!

AddsVsGeorgs · 24/07/2021 20:02

If carries on, at those dangerous temperatures , i would ask for blood tests

hedgehogger1 · 24/07/2021 20:05

Did they test his urine?

Workinghardeveryday · 24/07/2021 21:15

Yes, only test they did, didn’t show anything

OP posts:
poorfanjo · 24/07/2021 22:21

I'd go back to the ward as a child with that high a temp would have access to the ward for 48 hours

AddsVsGeorgs · 25/07/2021 00:40

If the same temperatures, please take him back

Mumoftwo367743 · 20/10/2022 04:09

Hey my son is going through this? Did you end up finding out what’s wrong?
