Hi, my ds10 has been fine all day. About 4pm he said he was cold (weird given the weather). At 5.30 said he feels sick, headache and has no energy at all. Not been out in the sun really all day.
Please could you let me know your kids Covid symptoms? I am worried about him, temperature going from 38.6-39 and back.
Thank you

Both DC temperature 38-39 and headache. Tested positive for covid. One also had very snotty nose and sore throat (got the cough at the end), other had the cough and was achy. Lasted a good 4 days, both fine now. Hope your ds feels better soon

Workinghardeveryday · 23/07/2021 08:32

Up all night with him taking his temperature and tepid baths, temperature high all night then really high and back down. Rang 999 this morning because it was 41. Ambulance just left to take him to hospital on his own because I can’t go because of my health and Covid risk.
I feel like the worst mum in the world. Dp meeting them at hospital because he was at work

I really hope he's okay op and that the hospital get to the bottom of it.

Tepid baths though are REALLY not recommended. They cool the body too quickly and in response, their temperature shoots up even higher.

You are NOT the worst Mum in the world. You did what you needed to do.

CommanderBurnham · 23/07/2021 08:41

Hope he's ok. I initially thought sunstroke but with that temp you did the right thing. Big hugs 🤗

I once had to send my child in an ambulance without me and it is very hard to do but actually you are doing the best thing for them by not creating a potential extra problem down the line.

I will think of you today as you must be very worried

Adelphia1977 · 23/07/2021 08:45

You are a great mum, you did what we would do in those situations. And you know...at 10 he'll probably feel quite grown up and quite cool to be in an ambulance. Dad will be there soon. We will all be thinking of you today. X

Whathefisgoingon · 23/07/2021 09:32

My toddler has a temp of up to 39.7 every time he’s sick. Never been Covid. You need to do a test regardless though to rule it out.

WhatsWithAllTheCarrots · 23/07/2021 09:43

Oh goodness, I'm so sorry he's ended up in hospital OP. But how wonderful that he's somewhere he can be looked after and that DP can get there soon. It must be awful for you not being able to go with him - I really feel for you. You are NOT the worst mum in the world - you're super. You've looked after him all night and called for help when you needed to. Sending best wishes xx

Cityzen74 · 23/07/2021 09:46

Thinking of you and your son. He will be looked after really well and your DH will be with him soon. You are a good Mum - you knew he was ill and you got him the help he needed. Flowers for you all x

ShowOfHands · 23/07/2021 11:28

How's he doing?

LittleMyTopKnot · 23/07/2021 11:39

Does he have any underlying health conditions?

If not, please try not to worry. My children have had temperatures up to 41 and even slightly above. It is frightening the first time. We went the A&E the first time it happened to my youngest (fever convulsions) and a few times when the temperature wouldn’t go below high 39 almost 40 even with max dose of Calpol and Nurofen.

One my children was kept overnight when the temperature was 40ish for the fifth consecutive day.

They were all fine in the end and only the one kept overnight (after five days of 40+ temp) required any intervention whatsoever (drip and antibiotics).

My 11 year old had Covid last year, cough, high temperature (39) and said it hurt when he was breathing. Again, all well after a few days. We were considering taking him to hospital but managed at home.

Children can be very resilient. Most of the time it is not serious but needs to be checked out to control for the very extremely cases when it is.

Your DS is in the best hands, you have done everything you possibly can. Please keep us posted.

Just seen this thread. Poor you, what a worry Flowers He's in good hands (and you are not an awful mum - you did all the right things!) My best wishes for a speedy recovery for him ❤
Loyaultemelie · 23/07/2021 12:51

You absolutely aren't an awful Mum, you are doing the best in a horrible situation. Wishing him a speedy recovery from whatever it is

Workinghardeveryday · 23/07/2021 13:23

Hi all, thank you for all your lovely messages, means a lot.
He is home!!! His temperature went up to 43.5, he felt very unwell in hospital and very upset (I FaceTimed). After a couple of hours it just came down to 37.7 which is great. Is the same now too and he is chatting and had a slice of toast.
They have no idea what caused it but don’t think it’s Covid so that is good!
Such a worry, so pleased he is home following me around again!

wonderstuff123 · 23/07/2021 13:28

43.5 wowzer! That's high. How did they get it down?

So glad he's home, hope he continues to improve x

Workinghardeveryday · 23/07/2021 13:52

Thanks 😊, it just came down all of a sudden! We have no idea why x

Mindymomo · 23/07/2021 15:33

What a worrying time for you, but so pleased he’s back home.

Workinghardeveryday · 23/07/2021 15:33

His temperature going back up again now! He says he feels fine but his temperature is 39.2

OP posts:
AvaCallanach · 23/07/2021 15:35

It's weird that the hospital just sent him home without ensuring that temperature was stabilised. I would be taking him back tbh.

Marmite27 · 23/07/2021 15:39

My 3 year old was like this yesterday.

She’d started with a cough the day before at nursery and they said it was getting worse and asked for her to be tested. Overnight the cough and runny nose got worse and she had a temp of 39.9 at 3am.

Her PCR was negative. There’s a nasty virus doing the rounds with all the Covid symptoms but not Covid in our area. I’ve heard of 5/6 kids with it since mine came down with it.

She was really quite ill yesterday, but has bounced back today and is just bunged up with an occasional temp spike. The highest it’s been today is 38.4 and she’s only had one dose of calpol in the last 24h.

I hope your son feels better soon OP.

Jenjenn · 23/07/2021 15:41

Did he have paracetamol at the hospita to bring temp downl? If so, what time was the last dose? 4hr+ and it could be just paracetamol wearing off. Can he take next dose now?

Marmite27 · 23/07/2021 15:41

@SandysMam

The too tired to move his body definitely sounds like Covid.
Yesterday DC3 went upstairs to use the toilet and was gone a while. When we investigated she was laid on the landing because she was too tired to come back down.
Workinghardeveryday · 23/07/2021 15:52

The hospital didn’t give him anything, calpol and ibuprofen will have worn off so gave him both but temperature not coming down.
I feel ill too, I can’t get off the bed I am so tired and dizzy but no temperature
I wonder what it is. Dd15 said she feels the same

rottenegg12 · 23/07/2021 16:20

Could it be some sort of Monoxide poisoning? If all of you are feeling unwell?

lorisparkle · 23/07/2021 16:26

Did they give you open access / phone number for children's ward? If not I would be phoning 111
