Testing help

Hi. Took my son to be tested the other day as he spent the night coughing. Just come back both of us with positive tests.

All the family isolated from the point of going for the tests so at least haven't been spreading it since symptoms started, but wondering whether we now should get my daughter and husband tested for contact tracing purposes? My daughter clearly has it as she has been coughing in the last 12 hours. She goes to nursery but hasn't been since Friday now. She went to swimming on Saturday.

Or do track and trace call me and deal with the whole family and their contacts as if we are positive?

Im obviously reluctant to send my daughter and husband to a testing centre when I know they are positive but equally don't want to mess up the contact tracing

test and trace only deal with the contacts of confirmed cases. Close contacts are advised to get a test now and she has symptoms.

The testing centers have people with covid in them all the time. If you really don't want to send them book a home test.

It's Wednesday, the other cases would be beyond the 48 hours before, there is no point wasting tests and contact tracers time - they won't trace anyone before 48 hours.

If they had symptoms "the other day", then you should have got them tested then, if they didn't then there's no point. There's certainly no point if the only different contacts to your son were last Saturday.

Order home tests for them. If they get positive tests you can give the contact tracers all the information and leave it up to them to decide who is relevant and who isn't to be classed as a close contact.

Ok thanks that's helpful. My son was coughing Monday night and I booked a test at 4.30 Tuesday am for 8.30 Tuesday am so not sure I could have acted any quicker! I didn't realise they didn't bother with anyone 48 hours before symptoms stated - in which case swimming would be irrelevant. We haven't been anywhere else since.

Yes get them tested. My son and I are currently positive and track and trace said my daughter should be tested even though she’s asymptotic. I ordered a home test as don’t want to drive her when I’m positive

Mindymomo · 21/07/2021 12:11

I would get them tested either drive in or by a home test, just to know one way or another. Test and trace could take a few days to get through to you, so don’t rely on them contacting any of your contacts and if you know you were in contact with anyone you know personally 48 hours prior to testing, you should contact them yourself.

Ok thanks- we've ordered some home tests.
We've been contacted by track and trace for my son but they seemed completely disinterested about details of his school which I thought was interesting-he was there on Monday so very likely positive then given the symptoms started Monday evening. I've emailed school just in case but presume they won't do anything as it's not their responsibility now
