have any bubbles been sent home today (monday)

So our (primary) HT explains that bubbles are continuing until the end of term but not necessarily the sending bubbles home when positive. He says T&T will be sorting and as he understands it it will be 'properly close contacts' only being asked to isolate, and he thinks that means siblings etc.
However he admits he has no idea how it will work in practice other than he won't have anything to do with it.
Anyone's child test positive today and what happened? (obviously hope they are ok too).
Desperate to make it to the end of term without any more self isolation (DS had done 3 recently, including 2 back to back)

We sent a group home today as the PCR was taken over the weekend. Only PCRs from Monday would be picked up from track and trace.

We also had twice as many positive cases call in today as we had in the whole of last week. I don’t feel confident at all and still have 6 days left. No longer doing any contact tracing but thinking a lot of families will start withdrawing children over next couple of days

SwanShaped · 19/07/2021 22:17

I think legally you can go, unless is test and trace who have contacted you. As schools have no obligation anymore to let you know.

Bananarice · 19/07/2021 22:19

On Friday dsis headteacher decided to move all learning home for all year groups unti the end of term. Said there were to many people self-isolateing. She is at a secondary school.

theemperorhasnoclothes · 19/07/2021 22:36

It's totally ridiculous - the idea that the crappy test and trace that has never been fit for purpose can take over contact tracing in schools, rather than just letting the teachers (who do know where everyone sits) do it. How much money are they getting and why isn't it being put into schools instead?

How awful for the teachers to know they're going to have to teach in schools with NO mitigations against covid at all. There weren't many to begin with, and now there will be none.

A friend's son tested positive on Saturday and test and trace only contacted them to find out close contacts on Weds. At that point there really seems to be little point in even bothering - 5 days of his close contacts going around spreading it by that point, if he hadn't already let them know himself. It's hardly following the science .

marieantoinehairnet · 19/07/2021 22:38

Yep, entire 3 fork year 6 bubble, end of their primary education ending like this, absolutely awful

JoyOrbison · 19/07/2021 22:45

It's no better than lockdown last year - my dc finished primary school. Last year... There wasn't a full class in due to a) not enough space in classroom for 2 metre dustanci g so a cap in numbers, and b) some pupils couldn't request a place as the were medically vulnerable.

To make it fair and so pupils missed out on anything g, on the last day of term the pupils in site had to treat ir as a normal day at school - no shirt signing, no leavers hoodie ( silent cheer from me) no leavers assembly with photos etc, no assembly, no farewell from staff, no waving off the premises with music, no parties, no celebrations in class. No group meal as still lock down measures. It was absolutely shit and dc still mentions that they felt left out of everything to celebrate their time at primary.

In comparison to other lockdown issues, no big deal but still a massive let down for children

I would have thought most parents would support moves like this right now. Harder for primary though.

Yes two bubbles at the school I work at today. Including the one I'm in.

Have been told I only need to isolate until Thursday as child as been ill since last week. So for the majority of the isolation time, myself and the rest of the bubble have been out and about unaware of the the child that was unwell.

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 19/07/2021 23:17

Yes. A really crap day here. The whole of year 6 which my DS is in sent home to self isolate. They have been at the school for 7 years and had their play for the parents tomorrow, school trip on weds, graduation ceremony on Thursday and last day of school on Friday. They were given half an hours notice that it turns out that today is their last day, everything cancelled and they needed to be picked up ASAP. This is because of 1 case in a year of 60 kids. It's so crap for them. I have had cancelled holidays/ days out etc but this was the first thing that I have really felt gutted about for them after such a shit year. I know there are worse problems in the world but to see all them crying today abs being told to go straight home was a bit heart wrenching.

FoxtrotSkarloey · 19/07/2021 23:31

Does anyone know the legalities of a private nursery saying you have to isolate?

We've just been told a member of DS' nursery staff is positive and it's his birthday in a couple of days. I've no objection to him staying at home but after a write off last year too, I'm desperate to have both his grannies over on Sunday. We'd do a LFT on him first and they don't really go out so even if he did have anything to pass on, they won't see anyone to pass it on to. Do we dare? In a few weeks we'd be able to book him a PCR and crack on so why not now?

Gertie75 · 19/07/2021 23:36

Our year 6's bubble burst today so no leavers assembly and the limo ride and little party afterwards on Wednesday is all cancelled, the kids were in tears.

iloveredpandas · 19/07/2021 23:47

So so sad for all the year 6s. Crappy end to a crappy year

Htp320 · 19/07/2021 23:48

Text came through as we were heading out the door facepalm

AtomicBronde · 19/07/2021 23:50

A few Y9 bubbles burst today at Ds’s school!

NoWordForFluffy · 20/07/2021 00:28

DD's school had two bubbles burst today, one in her year. I'm just glad that DS got his Y2 leavers' disco as he was so excited about it. They're finishing at 2 tomorrow, so should get through to the end. Fingers crossed!

irresistibleoverwhelm · 20/07/2021 00:34

Some local authorities/LEAs are continuing the bubble system, especially in areas with high case rates. So we got a letter today from school saying that T&T and public health England are instructing the LEA/schools in our area to continue with school bubbles isolating. Basically responsibility for contact tracing has passed to T&T, but they can decide to hand the practicalities back to schools in some areas.

ipswichwitch · 20/07/2021 01:58

just had an email saying DS1’s class is to isolate. Last day of term tomorrow too ☹️. We’ve only just come back from a 2 week isolation for our entire household (all of us positive bar DH). Ffs

DPotter · 20/07/2021 02:15

Yep - 2 years at local primary

sol7 · 20/07/2021 03:28

My DC (Y6 Sad) had a postive result today. I informed the school but they haven't done anything. They sent out a message to say that the school is no longer isolating bubbles and contact tracing will be taken over by test and trace. The PCR test was carried out at the weekend but the result only came through today. I assume test and trace will be contacting me but I don't know what I'll tell them. DC has only been to school but I don't have the contact details of the children they sit with. Plus they were all doing activities together at the end of last week. Hopefully they won't actually isolate anyone else from the class as I'd feel terrible if they all had to miss their last day at primary school.

olivethegreat · 20/07/2021 07:01

So sorry for all the Y6 children affected. So rubbish .

If it's t&t doing it then it really will just be close mates esp for secondary then ? I've no clue who anyone is apart from her best mates - and if one gets it they would def have to isolate as they're around eachother all the time at the moment .

I get my full hol money back if I cancel with a weeks notice - which is 48 hours after the end of school. Bit tense .... esp as t&t are so slow !! But if it's just best mates I guess I'd hear anyway .

Anyone else I'm ignoring it as school quite empty now as they are allowed to home school for this last week and she's really not around anyone much apart from her key mates .

HugoToWin · 20/07/2021 07:02

Already home Hmm

Sorry to hear about your dc. I think if this were me I’d prefer it that school told the rest of the class that there was a positive even if not sending them home. You’re right though unless t&t are on the ball, and quickly, it seems a bit of a mess

out year 6s got the dreaded call last week when they were just half an hour into their trip. Coach turned back. End of term ruined.

I just can't get my head round how anyone would think this is an ok way to treat kids just finishing primary school. At that age testing them daily should be at least an option.

@Bubblesareannoying

My DD (reception) whole year got sent home today due to positive case. I was unclear about why, as I thought similarly that this wouldn’t be happening from today. My DH called 119 and asked them for further info, and although the govt guidance says that now it’ll be t&t who will be sorting this, they said they hadn’t been given any proper instructions. Which pretty much sums up this shitshow doesn’t it!
Reception (and key stage 1) classes are likely to have to all isolate due to the nature of the classroom set up. They won't have seating plans for a full day and children will be moving around, mixing with one another and with staff with no social distancing. It would be impossible to determine who spend more than 15 minutes within 2m of another child. Hence they will all isolate.

Re year group - if anything like our reception classes the staff work between classes, there is an open plan feel to the set up with shared spaces and shared equipment, no full height walls between areas, etc. So, whilst our KS1 bubbles are just a class, our whole reception is one bubble.

Abraxan · 20/07/2021 11:07

Re isolating

In some areas schools are still acting on behalf of T&T this week, until the end of term. In some areas LEAs have been asked to retain that control as before.

Also, even where T&T g]have taken over, any testing done prior to 19 July comes under school control - hence bubbles still closing on Monday, if test was done before midnight Sunday. This could still be the case today too.

In a school where they are still working in behalf of T&T, or if the test was done before midnight on 18th, the school notice to isolate is legally enforceable, as it was before. And once the isolation begins it doesn't stop just because of 19 July date.

All that date means is the stop of bubbles and T&T taking over in areas. The isolation of under 18s doesn't come into force until 16 August,
