So what's going to happen to under-age clubbers, then?

Asking for my youngest child a friend.

Clubs are stuffed full of young people who are well under 18, all of whom have fake ID. However, they can't have the Covid vaccination other than for particular medical reasons. Is there going to be a black market in Covid passports, along with "lost" provisional driving licences?

Fakes. Surely they will just screen shot a mates. Buy one off eBay etc.

Where there is a will, there will always be a way.

HelloMissus · 19/07/2021 20:43

Oh plenty of ID buying.
My DD’s was Chinese I shit you not (we ain’t Chinese).
Never ever questioned.

Iknowtheanswer · 19/07/2021 20:47

Of course they have fake ID. Guy at the local supermarket charges £50 per passport. My son's friend had a night out to celebrate his 19th birthday - he's not quite 18 yet Grin

RonaLisa · 19/07/2021 20:54

All ringing oh so true, though @HelloMissus made me laugh. My youngest has been going to clubs since she was 15, with fake ID that claims she is 23. She does look way older than 15, but not that much older. She also doesn't look much like the girl in the photo.

No vested interest in this any which way, btw, as I last went in a club 30 years ago and loathed it. Other DC (older) are not bothered. This one will be very pissed off, though, if they find a way to enforce it as she's the youngest in her school year in real life. Grin

My understanding is that someone else's provisional driving licence is £45 on the black market, so it will presumably be similar for a vaccination passport.

With the best will in the world, no government scheme is going to outwit a determined teenager.

I don't think this plan proposed by Mr Johnson will happen. Enough Tory backbenchers will oppose it, and Mr Johnson does not engage with other parties who might support it.

Starmer doesn’t oppose anything.

Friend's under 18 was vaccinated today and no underlying conditions. People telling her on FB that she shouldn't have been - but why would a vaccination be given if it wasn't?

What the fuck does it have to do with people on FB?
GrealishHairband · 19/07/2021 21:24

17 year old DD is out clubbing tonight. The crowd she is with have a mixture of fake IDs and those borrowed from a similar looking friend. DD is oldest in the group and turns 18 at the beginning of September but we haven’t been able to book her jab yet.

Kiatu · 19/07/2021 21:24

You can get vaccinated 3 months before your 18 birthday now

My kid turns 18 on Saturday and received the first vax the 2 weeks ago but can only book in after he turns 18

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 19/07/2021 21:35

I have no idea! Her Mum posted to let other parents know that there was a local walk in facility for 16+ and then people piled in saying she shouldn't have been vaccinated, not approved etc posting links trying to prove it hasn't been approved etc etc
It read like a MN thread !!

Fuck all to do with them. My friends 16 year old was vaccinated recently and she posted about it on FB. Nobody asked anything. (although I did wonder if it was an exception for an unknown medical condition- but again, none of my business)
FlyingBattie · 19/07/2021 22:03

Also, I've led a sheltered life. No older siblings or cousins, no way to get a fake ID. We had to try to blag, but this was in the early 00s so it sometimes worked!

toolatetooearly · 19/07/2021 22:08

I went to so many clubs with fake ID at 16 & 17, I was bored of them by the time I actually turned 18

Yonkerslopez · 19/07/2021 22:09

Who cares, they shouldn't be in clubs or bars until of legal age.

Bet you’re fun at parties.
Yonkerslopez · 19/07/2021 22:22

Legally they shouldn't be there so why get your knickers in a twist? Adults don't want to share adult places with kids thanks

Yonkerslopez · 19/07/2021 22:23

yes I don't party with teenagers hahaha

My thoughts too! I’m only in my 20s but don’t want to be around a load of 16-year-olds haha

When I go out on the odd occasions places usually ID everyone and scan it (which I’m guessing would spot fakes??) so I assume it’s only certain establishments that are heaving with underage drinkers

MTTL · 20/07/2021 08:05

I'm trying to imagine the logistics of people checking covid passes. Presumably they'd be on phones? I don't think nightclubs will think it's worth it for the extra time it takes to get people in

HelloMissus · 20/07/2021 08:11

Many club nights sell tickets electronically now (far less just turning up on the night). Presumably they could ‘check’ the vaccine evidence/negative test as part of the ticket sale process?

BarbaraofSeville · 20/07/2021 08:55

I thought under 18s were a lot less likely to drink alcohol or go to adult venues these days as it was pretty much impossible to buy alcohol or get in?

When I was 18 my 16 YO sister went drinking, clubbing, partying etc using my paper birth certificate. You'd never get away with that now.

mayjuneapril · 20/07/2021 09:10

@BarbaraofSeville yes that’s what I thought. Even when I was 18 (just over a decade ago) it was pretty difficult to go out underage drinking unless you were happy to stick to a small selection of ropier clubs and bars (which were generally avoided by actual adults on the basis they had a reputation for being full of kids and were pretty crap anyway) Anywhere decent was very vigilant on ID and fake or borrowed IDs, it can have huge consequences for businesses. I’d have assumed it was even more difficult now.

RonaLisa · 20/07/2021 10:31

Barbara, it seems to be very possible to buy alcohol and get into clubs from about 15 onwards Confused.

I don't see the appeal, but I am apparently an unreasonable dinosaur.
