day 2 and 8 test vs. test to release

Dear all,
I recently came back from an amber country (not the point of this post) and am currently isolating, waiting for the result of the day 2 test and trying to work out how to switch onto the test and release.
Has anybody here on MN done this? Can I just take my day 8 test early and stop quarantining if it's negative, or do I have to fill in a new form? I've been contacted several times by test and trace in person and by phone, and I asked them and they said I had to fill in a new passenger locator form, which I didn't quite understand because you fill those in before you travel...

If anybody can shed any light, I'd be grateful!

No. The stupidity of this is that you have to buy (for about £100) a PCR test, which is exactly the same as the one you have to take on Day 8.

I cannot for the life of me figure out why you can be released after 5 days and not 10 if you'll only part with £100 ....

You need to fill in a new passenger locator form and opt in to test to release. Unfortunately this will Likely mean that you end up getting two sets of calls.

Ah, thank you so much for the quick replies! That's really helpful.

I did wonder if it was all going to come down to money, which it looks like it is... :(

Yep. Lots of money. As pp have said, you will need to do a new PLF and indicate taking part in test to release. Then purchase a TTR test but still also do the day 8 you already have, even if TTR is negative and you've stopped quarantine. Go figure.
