Anyone more worried about track and trace than the virus?

I'm fairly laid back about coronavirus , had it early on and now double vaccinated.
However cases in my area, like most places , are rocketing.
Yesterday 3 separate friends were pinged by t and t and are now isolating.
Until this stops on august 16th , I'm really worried that I'm going to get hit which will completely wreck my business and have a knock in effect on loads of my clients .
For that reason have deleted app and will be hunkering down, going out less and spending less than I have done in last few months .
Have been happy to eat out etc in last few months but will only be doing outside socially distanced stuff now.
It's madness , we either need to lit it rip now and get on with life or keep restrictions going . Next month is going to be very bumpy for lots of people I feel.

I was it taking about the app. No was responding to your post saying be it check in will tell people to isolate. It doesn't. You say it happened to you due to a restaurant table plan, this should not have happened and absolutely is not the reason for checking in. In fact all the literature surrounding venue check in is very clear it is not designed for contacting people to isolate. Your case is not the common, quite the opposite.[/quote]
That's exactly what the point of it is!

The need contact details In case you need to be told to isolate after a positive case. This has happened to me twice and has happened to many others I know. Why do you think they want your contact details when you arrive?

A large restaurant here was closed after multiple positive cases and a large number of the local community were contacted by t&t to isolate as they have been at the venue in the days around the outbreak.

iloveredpandas · 18/07/2021 09:43

@thenakedmolerat

"I don’t have the app but you do have to still give address out at restaurants etc so could get caught out" just give a made up name and number. Literally everybody I know does that
Quite a lot of the time they have the details anyway as you have to book online or give your phone number when you make a reservation.

In the case of an organised activity, hairdressers, taxi, gym class etc they also already have your contact details so you may get a call from test and trace if you did any of those things and were near someone who tested positive.

SpringheelJack · 18/07/2021 09:50

Deleting the app doesn't save you from the chaos though. Our nursery is shut next week for the third time since May because too many staff members have been told to isolate.

Wizzbangfizz · 18/07/2021 10:00

One week left of school so there is that to worry about but I deleted that app months ago. And the previous poster who said ffs this will go on forever - yes it will covid is here to stay and we need to learn to live with it and trust the vaccine and what we have learned about treating it.

ILookAtTheFloor · 18/07/2021 10:03

This is me, definitely.

I don't have the app.

I've told pretty much everyone I've spent more than 5 mins with not to name me as a contact if they succumb. I've told my husband to do the same, although he said he'd risk the fine and ignore it even if told by T&T, I'm not sure I have the balls to do that so I keep up with my asking people approach. Everyone laughs at me though!

toastantea · 18/07/2021 10:31

@iloveredpandas

I have highlighted the relevant part. Like I said, your experience was not the norm. Nobody is using table plans to contact people to isolate from a venue check in. In the case of the large outbreak, the check in has served its purpose, but one positive case in a value should not, as per NHS, be having people isolate.

iloveredpandas · 18/07/2021 10:42

@toastantea I think you are getting very confused! The 'venue alert' won't tell you to isolate no - test and trace will, which is what this thread is about!

The very purpose of venue's collecting contact details is to help control the spread of outbreaks of the virus within that venue - they keep all the customer details for 21 days and share them with test and trace if and when required.

I have attached the details from gov.co.uk if you are still unsure.

I'm not confused at all. I replied to a post saying that checking in would result in isolating.

iloveredpandas · 18/07/2021 11:03

@toastantea if you check in and there is an outbreak in a venue then your contact details may be passed on to test and trace who will then call you and may ask you to isolate.

This has happened to me twice and this is the entire point of venue's collecting contact details. It is certainly not a unique experience as you have stated.

Watermelon221 · 18/07/2021 11:18

@rookiemere

Yes *@delilahbucket* it would be easier if T&T was a bit less draconian. So you could still go out for exercise or dog walking but just avoid other people.
Yes I totally agree and we have been still dog walking early and not seen anyone.

But I suppose asking people to use common sense doesn’t always work well and they would stretch it to nipping to the shops or friends houses or for a coffee...

I think there are some crossed wires along the way.

I recently tested positive having been to a LOT of venues in the previous 48 hours Blush (we were on holiday, so had been to restaurants/ cafes/ museums as well as the hotel, rail stations etc - maybe 8 or 10 over the 2 days). I checked in to all of them where asked, using my correct details. I didn't use the app as it requires an English postcode to register and I have a Scottish one, but by giving details on the timed booking, at the venue using pen and paper, or using their own online check in method.

I gave details of places I'd been to Test and Protect when asked, and assumed I'd get contacted by text, phone or email by some or all of the venues, or by T & T directly to make me aware "someone" who was there while I was had tested positive, so either to take care, get a test, or isolate or whatever. (I checked with T & P they wouldn't actually give my name, so the venues would have no way of knowing it was me, and could exclude me from the alerts.. even if they had a way of doing that). I heard nothing from any of them. Which may just suggest that t & p don't talk to English places, or that I fell through some crack in the system, or maybe it just isn't working as I assume it should!

SpringRainbow · 18/07/2021 11:33

@IRanSoFarAway1

Aren't venues allowed to ditch contact tracing from tomorrow?
If they want, I believe.

I don’t think many companies are ditching their Covid policies. I think many are still going to strongly encourage the rules.

I might be wrong. I don’t really know what will happen from tomorrow.

Bythemillpond · 18/07/2021 12:01

Dd is just over having to isolate for the 4th or 5th time.
She is devastated as not only did she lose £1500 in work but also one of the jobs she was scheduled on was a once in a lifetime job.

JellyBabiesFan · 18/07/2021 12:05

I do not even understand how this is a question. Remove the app if you have it on your phone.

Just because you don’t have the app doesn’t mean you won’t be contacted by t&t

How are they going to contact me?

I dont answer unknown phone numbers.

jumpbounce · 18/07/2021 12:24

@tandtworry

Yes I completely agree, I'm unfortunately seeing the fallout of test and trace right now, DS is in hospital, has been for quite a while and is awaiting a serious operation. I had noticed the nurses getting quite stressed last week and one of them mentioned that so many staff are having to isolate the whole hospital is short staffed, I've seen the effect it's having and it's scary to be quite honest. There has to be a better way than leaving wards half staffed.
Would you rather the staff came on in then and your DS contracted covid from one of them postoperatively? because that is the risk if you have loads of close contacts just carrying on as normal unaware as to whether they have or haven't got covid

We are in hospital with DC regularly and have been all their life this short staffing issue isn't new to covid either but it's imperative that they keep wards safe and covid free if possible because the last thing already very ill people need is to contract covid!

I dont answer unknown phone numbers.

They text you and tell you you are legally obligated to isolate, then they phone 3 x a day until you answer. If you don't respond at all they can get the police to call round.
Bythemillpond · 18/07/2021 12:46

JellyBabiesFan

They get your number from any in the group you are in telling them you were there and this is your phone number.

Don’t want the virus, would only be concerned re track and trace due to the potential of having caught or not the isolation as understand it’s to protect others and wouldn’t ever want to make someone sick by my actions.

It's not that straightforward though is it? I presume you won't lost money if you have to self isolate.

@Bythemillpond I certainly wouldn't be allowing my daughter to miss a once in a lifetime opp due to that app!
