Anyone more worried about track and trace than the virus?

I'm fairly laid back about coronavirus , had it early on and now double vaccinated.
However cases in my area, like most places , are rocketing.
Yesterday 3 separate friends were pinged by t and t and are now isolating.
Until this stops on august 16th , I'm really worried that I'm going to get hit which will completely wreck my business and have a knock in effect on loads of my clients .
For that reason have deleted app and will be hunkering down, going out less and spending less than I have done in last few months .
Have been happy to eat out etc in last few months but will only be doing outside socially distanced stuff now.
It's madness , we either need to lit it rip now and get on with life or keep restrictions going . Next month is going to be very bumpy for lots of people I feel.

in the beginning i would check into a shop but that seems pointless

nhy21 · 18/07/2021 07:57

Me too. Partly as my son has just finished a 10 day isolation as a possible close contact (he didn't get Covid).

My kids are getting frustrated with me as I don't want them to see their friends this week as my older son has a driving test and then a d of e expedition and I don't want him to miss either through isolating as a close contact. It's getting a bit ridiculous that the isolation rule changes for the double vaccinated and under 18s are still a month away, rather than being brought forward.

Before the selfish twat posts start, I'm referring to close contact/daily testing, not rampaging around spreading covid if you have tested positive (in which case isolation is necessary).

TheGriffle · 18/07/2021 07:58

I like the Australian way where they put a list of venues and times and if you were there between those points you have to isolate and test.

I’ve never had the app, but wouldn’t isolate at this stage. It’s only advisory if you get pinged by the app anyway. (Obviously would isolate if contacted by phone).

LynetteScavo · 18/07/2021 07:59

I was more worried about having to self isolate, but I now have a double jabbed friend who is the same age as me who is feeling really poorly with Covid. Now I'm equally worried about both.

noblegiraffe · 18/07/2021 07:59

No, Iloveredpandas, if you have the Bluetooth on, then you will be pinged if you are physically close to someone who also has Bluetooth on and told to self isolate. If you check into a venue, it won't.

"If 2 or more people test positive for COVID-19 and have been in a venue on the same day, then other people who registered their attendance at the venue on that day will receive a notification with the necessary public health advice. This notification will either come from their NHS COVID-19 app if they checked in using the NHS QR code, or via a text message if they provided their phone number"

"Important information about venue alerts:

your venue will never be named in an alert
the alert will contain public health advice, such as what an individual should do when displaying COVID-19 symptoms, the need to maintain social distancing and a reminder to wash hands frequently. If necessary, individuals will be advised to book a test"

YANBU, I don't have the app for this reason. I know you aren't legally bound to isolate if you get pinged by the app but I would feel morally obliged too.

I'm going nowhere at the moment, 10 days of isolating during the summer holidays just isn't worth it, especially as we have a holiday booked. Obviously school is a worry but they have missed so much school I don't feel justified in keeping them off.

PomegranateQueen · 18/07/2021 08:00

Ah this isn't AIBU Grin but yes OP I feel the same as you!

CeeJay81 · 18/07/2021 08:02

We're going on a long train journey tomorrow, then again to return home on Friday. I'm so worried we will get pinged. We are off to see family but it's also a little holiday for us too. Probably the only time we are actually going anywhere this year. I don't think I'll be able to relax. If it happened on the way there and we get messaged before we return then we could be trapped. I won't be using the app but hubby insists ☹️.

CrouchEndTiger12 · 18/07/2021 08:04

Never had the app. Always take a photo of the qr code in restaurants etc to pretend I'm checking in.

Never had covid.

FreeBritnee · 18/07/2021 08:05

I’ve never had the app. I just leave my correct details in the places we visit (not many).

Santastealer · 18/07/2021 08:07

Yes definitely more worried about having to isolate than catching the virus. It’s my 4 year olds last few days at his preschool this week and I really don’t want him to miss it. He has some ASD traits and really needs a proper closure on preschool to help with the transition to school in September.

RumHoney · 18/07/2021 08:10

Yes. We were meant to be having a team catch up in the office this week but I had some important events this weekend that I didn't want to miss so I suggested rescheduling (I'm working my notice at the moment so less bothered about face time than I might be otherwise!).

Most of the things I do, particularly in this weather, are outside so I have scanning turned off in the app as it doesn't really take account of factors like that. I do still scan/check in on the rare occasions when I go inside somewhere for more than a minute or so.

Topseyt · 18/07/2021 08:14

I've deleted the app for this reason.

It seems to have been pinging everyone willy nilly over the last few weeks and there is little rhyme or reason to it.

DH got pinged by his when he hadn't even been anywhere for ages. Only out for walks in the fields near us, where you usually see the sum total of no-one. It said isolate for 2 days, which seems pretty pointless anyway. We ignored it, and I think he will probably delete the app soon too.

RaraRachael · 18/07/2021 08:15

Nobody I know has the app.

That's what I said though.

I've been contacted by a venue to isolate - if you booked they already have your contact details so it's not all about the app.

toastantea · 18/07/2021 08:19

@iloveredpandas

Yes it will if you are close contact with someone who test positive there - that's the point of it!

It absolutely will not.

Venue check in may give you advice but it will not tell you to self isolate. I think you are confusing it with being a close contact, checking in doesn't tell anyone who is a close contact. It tells you who was in the same place.

rookiemere · 18/07/2021 08:19

Yes @Scramblinghealingdreaming .

I'm so cynical these days that when I heard about Javid, my first thought was does he actually have it and are they just making up propaganda to show that you don't get it seriously second time round. It will be interesting to see if Johnson isolates, but I would imagine he'll also be party to that trial that Gove was in so will just do lateral flow tests each day.

And yes to the original question T&T would properly mess up my plans. At the minute it's Scroedingers virus - it doesn't matter so much if you actually have it as if you have been tested and shown to have it, or been in contact with others who do. It's one of the reasons we've decided not to go abroad - too much testing.

The thread title mentions test and trace - it's different to the app!

If you leave your contact details at the venue (if you don't check in on the app you are asked to write them down) then they can contact you and ask you to isolate. Even if you don't check in with your details they may already have them in you personally booked a table or activity.

I was contact traced by t&t and asked to isolate - apparently this was because a table plan showed I was a close contact.

Tiddlywinkly · 18/07/2021 08:25

Yes. We don't have the app, but I worry about the call of doom from school. Supposed to go on short UK hol soon. I'm not getting excited until we're on the motorway. I would turn off my phone for a few days (but my conscience says I won't). So fed up.

Imnothereforthedrama · 18/07/2021 08:25

Boris doesn’t need to isolate he’s doing that test thing so no why should we . I think from tomorrow business don’t need to ask for people to check in .

AlfieandAnnieRose · 18/07/2021 08:25

From tomorrow it will no longer be a legal requirement to check in with the app when you go to a restaurant or pubs etc. 🎉
I also don’t have the app

delilahbucket · 18/07/2021 08:30

Yes, this has been my biggest fear all along. I cannot just drop my business to isolate and it doesn't help the next seiss payment only covers three out of five months and when my takings are already down 70% I can't afford to repeatedly isolate. I work alone, we're going very few places. We are getting married in just under five weeks and cannot afford to miss this wedding because one of us catches Covid. I am on edge constantly as this is our third wedding booking and I am worried it's going to be taken away from us again.
Besides which, no one is designed to be stuck in their home for ten days straight. DS is now on day nine and yesterday was awful for him. Glorious weather and he just wanted to be out with his mates eating ice cream and having water fights. That isn't normal when someone isn't poorly.

Hellcatspangle · 18/07/2021 08:34

I don’t have the app but you do have to still give address out at restaurants etc so could get caught out

Never heard of anyone being called to isolate by a pub or restaurant - how would they know whether you'd been sat close to an infected person? They don't even have times on usually, so it's not worth the paper it's written on.

The only way you might have to isolate is from having confirmed contact with a positive case, and getting a phone call from T&T, so just be careful who you mix with. I'm only mixing with my own immediate family and close friends outdoors at the moment.

Santastealer · 18/07/2021 08:35

You won’t get the call of doom after Monday as schools will no longer be identifying close contacts. It will all be done by test and trace who won’t trace children in education settings.
rookiemere · 18/07/2021 08:37

Yes @delilahbucket it would be easier if T&T was a bit less draconian. So you could still go out for exercise or dog walking but just avoid other people.
