School bubble, multiple classes told to isolate

DC's primary school had its first positive case today and sent multiple classes home. DC in different class to positive case.

Am I right in thinking that the school decides who is a close contact? If so, this will potentially include DC's whole class, when only mixing between classes is sharing dining hall and playground. I'm sure they wouldn't be considered as close contacts by Test and Trace!

Anyone willing to share their insights?

The school decides who is a close contact with support from Public Health England in my experience, but the procedure might be different in other parts of the UK.

Adult staff have always been allowed to mix between bubbles, so it could be one of them that has tested positive after being with several classes.

Our school has been sending home the bare minimum, with multiple cases in all years.

Thanks. I think seeing as it's our first case, school seems to be reacting more strongly than they would if we'd had several.

If the classes are mixing in the playground then they wouldn't be classed as separate bubbles. Lots of schools do year groups bubbles but our school does class bubbles, they have separate marked our play area and are not allowed to mix at all.
