Second jab after pulmonary embolism?

I had a pulmonary embolism at the start of this week (unrelated to receiving the moderna jab 3 weeks ago- apparently) just wondering what the thoughts are moving forward with a second dose? I’m very lucky to be on the mend and on medication after a hospital stay.

Would this be something to discuss with GP or is there some sort of specialist I can contact? I’m obviously very cautious but also keen to be fully vaccinated. I’m only 28 with no previous health conditions so obviously a massive shock

Sorry to hear about the PE - what an awful shock. I saw this article yesterday that might be of interest:

The FDA are investigating whether pulmonary embolism might be a rare side effect of the Pfizer vaccine. I know it's not Moderna, but it's the same technology. Important to note that a link hasn't been confirmed yet, but this is how it started with the issues with AZ.

You should be seen by a heamatologist who can advise. I would also recommend taking a look at thrombosisuk.org/ which has loads of advice and resources and an associated Facebook group that can offer support.

Hope you feel better soon

My DH had a P.E due to Covid and had his vaccination 6 weeks later and it was fine, he was on blood thinners. I would ask your haemotologist team (GP could also contact them for advice if you don't have a contact) what they recommend.

@Choconuttolata thanks! I haven’t had covid and I’m being discharged on blood thinners so hopefully I can go ahead with the 2nd vaccine as planned. I’ve for a haematology referral but I’m not sure how quickly an appointment for that will be with long waiting lists etc. Hope your DH is found well now

There is a clinical advice line where you can have specific clinical advice in relation to individual situations. I presume you would be ae to be added to this from 119?

Thanks @Snowbeau that sounds like what I’m looking for
