PCR testing sites "none available"

apparently literally no-where in the country has slots available. DS is a CC at school . He's got no symptoms, LFT is negative and they break up Friday. A negative result doesn't release him from SI anyway so what's the point of burdening the system further ordering a home test? Wondering if the "no availablity" is because of the change of guidance for CCs to test, regardless of symptoms.

DH is trying to get a test and there's been no slots available for an hour. Hasn't been like this since last Sept. Are lots of people testing before the summer holidays or is this because infections are going back up and there's not enough lab capacity?

TheNarwhalBalloon · 15/07/2021 11:12

Keep checking, it was the same yesterday and then about 12.30 a load of slots became free. Good luck!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 15/07/2021 11:13

The people going on holiday shouldn’t be using the national service, although I suspect some are.

My guess is we’ve hit the age old problem of trying to run covid hot but not having the capacity to deal with the number of cases.

Popkids · 15/07/2021 11:17

We'll keep checking and go for a home test if none come up but it's when to cut out losses on a test today. DH is pretty poorly so if he does have it we'll need to isolate and I'd rather know ASAP as I'll have some appts to cancel.

HugeAckmansWife · 15/07/2021 11:18

Oh I've ordered a home one now. Can't be arsed to keep checking a rechecking and it's not like a negative releases you anyway so there's no real rush. It's just interesting though and I agree that people are quite likely using them for holiday tests (though I don't blame them at all)

Same happened to me then 30 mins later there were loads

Finfintytint · 15/07/2021 11:20

Whereabouts are you? You can have test without an appointment but you’d need to register after the test.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 15/07/2021 11:23

Why test him at all?

HugeAckmansWife · 15/07/2021 12:02

Awkward ex, contact issues, doesn't really matter.

The cynic in me thinks that if no-one can test then the case numbers will go down and the government. can say that things are improving.
Like they were going to re-jig the app to make it less responsive.
Bojo is bored with this now. He wants it to be over.

whatswithtodaytoday · 15/07/2021 12:24

I think it's just a blip, one of my friends had this last week and then an hour later there were loads.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 15/07/2021 15:45

Theres potentially also a squeeze in the system as some of the testing sites have now closed. This puts more pressure on the remaining sites.
