NHS won’t leave me alone!

I’m isolating after a positive test. Following all the rules and juggling full time work and kids at home.
I don’t have time to have the same conversation with someone from the NHS every other day! Why do they keep calling to check I’m still following the rules? I’ve told them once I’ll stay home, nothing’s changed so why on earth do they want me to repeat it 8 times? If someone wasn’t isolating do they think they’d admit it? Is this really the best use of resources?

Just ignore the calls.
People are getting about 5 a day it's ridiculous.
Your doing what you need to, you've said your at home.

Lou573 · 14/07/2021 13:34

I honestly feel hounded by them! I just can’t see the purpose to this number of calls. I think you’re right, I may just block the number.

It's really patchy the contact from Test and Trace. My son has tested positive and we have only had 2 calls over the past 9 days!

VikingVolva · 14/07/2021 13:43

They can't win, can they?

If they don't check, randomly and fairly frequently, then they're accused of being toothless and everyone will just ignore it. If they do, then they're busy-body harrassers

BlackeyedSusan · 14/07/2021 13:43

I think they are supposed to check that you are not getting really unwell with it.

Well they could go more middle ground. It’s not either or.
Lou573 · 14/07/2021 13:48

But surely if someone’s said ‘yes, I’ll stay home, I know who to contact if I feel too ill and I have support’, they can take them off the list?? Why do they need to hear that 10 times over?!

BoomChicka · 14/07/2021 13:50

You could be anywhere and say you're at home though? The only effective way to police it would be a knock at the door- which happens but rarely - the phonecalls are covid theatre.

VikingVolva · 14/07/2021 13:50

'Well they could go more middle ground. It’s not either or'

The trouble with random is that it can mean someone comes up lots and others less so. Overall, it is the middle ground

Tatapie · 14/07/2021 13:52

I ignored the barrage of texts and emails from T & T asking me to fill in forms. I was too unwell and had been isolating anyway so no contacts to report. Because I didn't engage they passed my details to the LA team. They were lovely. And the people I've phoned at 119 have all been great too.
It's a shame the compliance calls are happening, such a waste of time.

Choconuttolata · 14/07/2021 13:56

I also had this and then one time I didn't answer as I was dealing with the kids, so they sent the local PCSO to check that we were isolating even though by then only 1 child was isolating and it was her last day of isolation.

blobby10 · 14/07/2021 14:32

My son (double vaccinated, and has had Covid ) is isolating after being deployed overseas for 3 months - he never went off his base but because the whole of the country that he was in is a Red Zone, he has to isolate. He's had one phone call per day so far and his day 2 test came back negative. He has one more test on day 8 then is 'free' on Sunday!

The thing is everyone is going to say they will stay at home aren't they!! I don't think anyone is going to say, they are not going to isolate. However, we know from statistics that people don't do what they say they come out of isolation because they feel well, or have few symptoms and then end up infecting other people.

Agree with @VikingVolva they can't win, can they!! According to a mumsnetter on another thread who lives in China, if you had a positive test in China you would be taken out of the household to isolate with other positive cases at a compound, that really would give you something to complain about!! Why don't we just be thankful that they are trying to keep everyone safe.

But if they call me on my mobile how do they know where I am? I could be on holiday for all they know!

Xenia · 14/07/2021 14:36

Now so many are vaccinated I am not sure we should be causing this greater damage to people and their lives.

BoaCunstrictor · 14/07/2021 14:45

Don't answer unless you want to.

Lou573 · 14/07/2021 14:52

They just called again! I answered just to ask them to take me off the list and they have promised that it will be the last one. It’s just felt really intrusive to be hounded on top of everything else. I’m doing what i’m told, I don’t need to be checked up on like a child. If I didn’t want to follow the rules would a phone call from them really make a difference anyway?!

@PinkSparklyPussyCat

Well yes, you could be but you are taking a risk aren't you. It only needs the track and trace team to hear something or suspect something and they could investigate further. This is probably one of the reasons they do try and call regularly to catch people that aren't isolating. I'm sure some irresponsible/selfish people think they can get away with not isolating, the rules don't apply to them, they know better blah blah.

The contract tracers are just doing their job.

Thiscantreallybehappening · 14/07/2021 15:03

Unfortunately, OP a lot of people don't do what they say they will do.

They aren't hounding you, this isn't personal to you they are just doing their job.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 14/07/2021 15:06

Well yes, you could be but you are taking a risk aren't you.

I wouldn't do it but I bet some people would take the risk. In fact I doubt I'd answer as my mobile is usually turned down!

Sonarl · 14/07/2021 15:07

Do they phone you on mobile or landline? My sibling is just finishing isolation after positive test and being unwell and says they ahvent been called once? they don't have a landline and gave mobile number.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 14/07/2021 15:09

It’s not the NHS ringing you, it’s Test and Trace.

Yes I know Johnson keeps calling it NHS Test and Trace but that’s misdirection.
