Does it not depend who took the sample?
I'd read that people doing the test on themselves had a lower success rate than a sample taken by a trained nurse/doctor, etc

Perhaps. It also seems that timing is a huge factor too. I did read somewhere that PCRs are best for telling you wether you are infected, but LTFs are good at pinpointing wether you are infectious.
