Should I keep daughter off school ?

Hi, half of my daughter's year have been sent home today due to 2 positive lateral flows ( kids awaiting pcr results). As of yet my child does not have to stay at home. Due to go on holiday in UK Friday . Should I keep her at home last 3 days of term with the hope that we can still go away? Also what would people do if their child was sent home due to being a close contact of an infected child ? Would you forfeit your holiday / do lateral flows/ buy a pcr ? We've strictly stuck to rules all along . Its not a dilemma as of yet, but terrified that if she goes in tmw she may be sent home if there are more cases .

I would keep her home. Holiday more important and they don’t do much on the last few days.

Especially if there’s a few cases already at the school.

Can I ask what are people saying to the school when they keep the child at home? Thinking of keeping ds off for the rest of the week, we go on holiday on Saturday. I'd have to lie and say he'd had close contact with someone who'd tested positive wouldn't I?

outofservice · 13/07/2021 16:35

I’d keep her home. I’m not isolating any more. I’ve done 3 stretches, the last with DS6. He did 2 negative lft and we stayed in for 10 days. He looked out of the windows at the empty play park, it’s ridiculous and cruel. I’ve had both jabs, deleted the app. I am testing every few days but until I’m positive I’m no longer isolating. If the kids are told not to go to school, as long as they are negative, we’ll be carrying on as normal (which, to be fair isn’t mixing very much or going anywhere exciting anyway)

MediocrePenguin · 13/07/2021 16:36

If there are any cases in her class in the next 2 days she will be a close contact anyway as it's any contact in yet previous 48hrs to a positive test or symptoms.

Honestly I'd probably take my chances at this point and I'd probably go on a Uk holiday too, as long as she seems well and testing negative on lateral flows

Notgoingonholiday · 13/07/2021 16:36

Absolutely keep her home. My DS yr9 is off school with a heavy cold today (negative test) and I'm half contemplating keeping him off longer than necessary. It's a crazy situation. The whole of yr 10 at his school has been sent home this week to isolate. It's the end of term and your holiday is way more important than last few days at school. You won't be the only ones doing it either.

SquashMinusIsShit · 13/07/2021 16:38

Yeah I'd keep her home too, she won't miss much work in the last 3 days of term especially with half of the year isolating. I know a few people who are doing it to protect their holiday.

If you want work set for her you could tell school someone else in the house is awaiting a test result.

CeltictigerMum · 13/07/2021 16:40

If I keep her off I think I am just going to say "in light of the situation we've decided to keep her home" . I'm not going to lie . I did think about the 48 hour thing .

I'm keeping DS at home this week as he's due to travel next week and I can't risk him testing positive.

The school were fine about it - they've set online work. His head of year said lots of parents were doing it and, off the record, it's a no-brainer and he'd do the same in our shoes.

The other thing I have heard is that a lot of kids are saying they've had positive lateral flow tests to get a couple of days off school ( obviously massive knock on affect !!!! ) until the pcr comes back! Jesus wept !

Oh God I'm fairly new to this , I have hidden my own post , not sure if anyone can even see it now ! How do I get it back?

Yes. Keep her off. I wish all parents with holidays booked would just keep their kids home at this stage. Why wouldnt you?

MrsKDB · 13/07/2021 17:53

A positive LFT is almost certain to be a positive PCR so she’ll be isolating soon anyway

CeltictigerMum · 13/07/2021 17:55

Sorted the tech issue, back on

Yes but if this happens then we won't be able to go away, will we ? Or do you think its enough to just do lateral flows every day. I'm not sure they are that reliable

Don't lie. It'll be unauthorised but the HT will respect your honesty. I would anyway!

Possibly unless she had even a hint of a symptom.

Although the type of holiday would make a difference, cottage in the middle of nowhere with walking on country paths then yes, butlins/haven/busy seaside town then no.

Yeah I'd still go in that case. Take food with you or get a delivery & you'd probably be safer there than at home!

I’m in a similar situation, DD has had two consecutive isolations, only back in school one day in between being sent home again. She is due back in school on Monday and school finish half day on Wednesday. I don’t want to send her back in to potentially have to isolate again for a third time in little over a month but school are not known to be very supportive of things like this!
