Negative lateral flow test needed to return to school after Covid?

Ds tested positive for Covid and we now at 10 days and he is well enough to return to school. However school are asking for a negative lateral flow test first. My understanding is that tests can remain positive for up to 90 days. I can’t find anything in the official guidance about this. Has anyone else experienced this?

The school are wrong, you don't test after having covid off up to 6 weeks iirc.

That's not right, no need to test

They're wrong. The school don't need any proof of a negative result before a child can return to school. There's a reason school children are told not to take lateral flow tests if they have had a positive pcr test with 90 days.

You definitely can test positive after having covid even if you don't have covid. This is not the advice the schools should be following....ask to see their policy....they won't have this in it.

I'd echo what everyone else says. My local school is also giving out this information but they are saying you need another PCR they won't accept lft! 90 days off school then is it? Confused Well I mean school holidays are only a few days away but lord knows why they can't get their heads around what's required

No you need to challenge this robustly...there was a case of 3 young british lads early on in the pandemic who couldn't escape quarantine in italy last year and return home for a number of months as their tests kept showing positive even though they'd "recovered".this is nit official guidance from thr DoH/DoE so I'd ask to see what written proof they have.

School are wrong, but you could try doing one anyway, for a quiet life. It's apparently true that you can still test positive for up to 90 days, but I didn't.

The guidance to schools does specifically say no further test for 90 days though.
