Boris mentioned “natural immunity”

…in relation to the measure that nightclubs etc could use in controlling entry to their premises. He said “vaccine passes, negative test or natural immunity”

So why, therefore, can schools not have the same measure on 19th July? Why can’t my son, who is still in isolation after a positive test, go back to his school for the last 2 days of term and rely on “natural immunity” (it would be days 13 and 14 for him). Why do I have to consider keeping him off in case he is made a classroom contact on one of those days and instructed to isolate for the first 10 days of the holiday.

Where’s the bloody science in that???

Where’s the bloody science in that???

Not coming from Boris.

MediocrePenguin · 12/07/2021 21:07

Can't you just send him in anyway? Would be bad luck that he'd have to isolate again.

Agree though. Ridiculous to have to isolate if you've just had it!

ThePinkBush · 13/07/2021 07:57

Bloody ridiculous

BIoodyStupidJohnson · 13/07/2021 08:02

When they talk about natural immunity, are they not referring to the fact that some people are immune to the virus simply due to their genetic make-up?

It happens with all viruses. My brother recently discovered that he’s naturally immune to HIV, for example.

MaMelon · 13/07/2021 08:05

And has he said how he intends people to show they have natural immunity?

Boris only listens to the science when they’ve presented it to him in a maximum of 2 sentences in words of 2 syllables or less. There is no science to this.

Lemons1571 · 13/07/2021 08:51

@MediocrePenguin he is looking forward to a holiday club that is linked to the school. They’d know he should be in isolation.

@BIoodyStupidJohnson Boris was talking about it in relation to entry to nightclubs and other high risk venues. No one could prove natural immunity in that way, at least not by 19th July.

I’m reading too much into it aren’t I? And assuming BJ has had the discussion and knows what he’s talking about. More fool me!

Awww - bless your optimism! Grin

Presumably he means able to prove covid infection in the previous 6 months?

Contact isolation will be ending soon, and it's always a bugger when you fall just on the 'wring' side of any cut off point.

Given that the lifting of contact isolation is one of actions that will fuel the summer experiment, I think that limiting it before DC cease mixing in schools would be a bad step. There's enough fuel to the summer wave without adding more.

sashagabadon · 13/07/2021 13:07

presumably a previous infection and hence antibodies?
quite a few people have had their own antibody tests done. My sister has for example, although she is also double jabbed so would no doubt use the jab record instead.
So either jabbed, LFT/PCR result or antibody test result

MaMelon · 13/07/2021 13:51

Antibody tests will cost the NHS a lot to administer - or if done privately I imagine will be up for abuse.
