Test and trace close contact question

Newpuppymummy · 11/07/2021 23:47

Long story but I have been asked to isolate due to close contact by test and trace. I don’t have the app and was named as a close contact. I know who named me and I wasn’t within 2m for 15 mins or 1m for shorter as per advice. I didn’t see anyone else the days it could have been. Is there any point calling test and trace and trying to appeal?

I would appeal and if ever I was contacted and told I was a “contact” when I knew I wasn’t based on the criteria I just wouldn’t isolate. There must be some people who name people as contacts to be malicious so surely they are used to people appealing? I also really struggle to understand why people you know would give your details to test and trace without speaking with you about it first.

Eleoura · 11/07/2021 23:53

You can't call them! The number goes to a message and not an actual person. Your 'contact' would have been asked if YOU were within 2m for 15mins or 1m for shorter, and clearly they thought you were, otherwise, you wouldn't be logged as a contact. Have you spoken to your contact about their perspective of your meeting?

Test and trace can only go on what your contact has put into their phone, or the answers they supplied!

Newpuppymummy · 11/07/2021 23:55

Oh didn’t realise you couldn’t call them! So there is no way of appealing ?

You can apparently appeal by calling 119.

It's a strange one isn't it as it's just one persons perspective vs. another. No idea how they decide who is right if people disagree.

Angryattrackandtrace · 13/07/2021 18:18

I’ve been texted today to say I’m a close contact… I am not a close contact. It’s a child I support out of school in a sport activity.
I absolutely was NOT within 1 metre of him.
Parent has identified me only as the close contact. Parents are not even at activity. They have to drop outside.
They have not responded to me requesting they remove me from the close contact list.
This affects my job and my pay. Work won’t let me attend (or pay me!!) as I have informed them I’ve been text.
I spoke to track and trace. They have told me I LEGALLY have to stay home unless my status is changed. Ridiculous.

MediocrePenguin · 13/07/2021 19:23

@Angryattrackandtrace that's ridiculous!
How can they even report you they weren't there to see?! Have you explained that to T&T?

Seems ridiculous that anybody could put your details down and it could all be completely untrue but you'd still have to isolate.

Personally I'd ignore it.

Angryattrackandtrace · 13/07/2021 20:21

Unfortunately I can’t ignore as I received at work and just read it out (think it was in shock!!!)

My manager won’t let me back unless I have proof that I can return.

So anyone could be vindictive and put your name down apparently!

Angryattrackandtrace · 13/07/2021 20:22

@MediocrePenguin I explained this all to the man on track and trace.

No empathy. Just followed hi script.

Watapalava · 13/07/2021 20:29

You need to now answer phone to them

If they can’t contact you you’re not breaking law

Block their number it’s widely available online

Up to 25/30% contacts aren’t found

Watapalava · 13/07/2021 20:30

Also given how many cases there are per day there can’t be anyway of people keeping tabs on whether people are isolating

MouldyPotato · 13/07/2021 20:47

That's terrible! So anyone could just lie and say they were near me and I'd have to isolate!

MediocrePenguin · 13/07/2021 23:13

I can't believe it! How ridiculous. They probably refuse to listen to counter arguments as there is no time or space to debate who or right or wrong.

It's going to get even worse soon and everyone will be so sick of it no one will isolate at all!

MediocrePenguin · 13/07/2021 23:14

@Watapalava they email and text you too though don't though - does that no count as contacting you?

Katie517 · 13/07/2021 23:26

If I knew I wasn’t a contact I wouldn’t isolate simple as that. I would explain when they called me and if they won’t change my “status” I would carry on as normal to the point of going to court to argue my case and appeal any fine if necessary (and we all know it wouldn’t come to that!) it’s one persons word against yours with no evidence so legally they don’t have a leg to stand on.

Watapalava · 13/07/2021 23:27

Well they can’t guarantee the email and text have been received I guess

You may even think it’s spam and just delete I suppose

I would refuse to work with the child again to be honest. How can you trust them?
