Pinged by app to test but not isolate

Anyone else had this? I'm a bit confused as the only contact from the NHS app I'd heard about was telling people to self isolate for ten days regardless of a negative test after close contact. This seems to be different and the implication is I can go about daily life unless I test positive. Happy to do this but am I interpreting correctly?

Not sure how I attached the image twice! Sorry about that...

Yes, that's a check in ping. It's up to you whether you test or not.

When you follow the 'book a test' link it's just for a lateral flow which we have at home anyway so all straightforward - I just hadn't realised this was a thing!

Lucky you. I've been pinged and told to isolate for 10 days. I can tell from my fitness tracker that I was out of the house for an hour the day I am supposed to have been in close contact with somebody who has tested positive (at least 30 minutes of that time I would have been walking along a reasonably empty road - the other 30 I went into 3 different buildings).

I must have an invisible stalker.

This seems like an exponentially more manageable approach than just "get in your house for ten days"! Is this them 'improving' test and trace?!

Spekoppar · 11/07/2021 18:55

This is from the check in, so you were in the same place as someone who has tested positive, but they’ve no idea if you were close to each other/there at the same time.
Different to the ping you get when your phone has communicated with a nearby phone and that person then reports a positive test.

The app should confirm what day the ‘ping’ was in its settings. If you have an iPhone you can then go to your phone settings and look to exposure notifications > exposure logging status > exposure checks you can see what time your phone communicated with others. Sure there must be non iPhone ways to do the same too.

Yeah I’ve had one of those

Thank you for the hint/tip Spekopper.

I can see I've been regularly checked by the NHS app at home (we work from home and have bothered to be out much in the past week) and then on the "day I was in contact" I can see that it checked where I was 6 minutes after leaving a shop (found the till receipt, really wouldn't have been in for more than 10 minutes). When my phone "checked" I was walking home past a sports centre and a few tourists for another 6 minutes maximum.

This app must be a nightmare for people who don't work from home/have to do school runs etc.

We have a stash of LFT's so I'll be antisocial, stay home and use them up.
