Can I do this?

We’re self isolating as GP has requested a PCR test very late on Wednesday evening so test has been done. We live quite rural, recently moved here and no family near by. We have run out of milk and bread as we started to isolate as soon as GP said. Can I go to the shops to get these essentials as we literally have nothing to give the kids to eat and my food order is not due to 5:30pm? As we’re rural not Uber eats/just eat etc either, can just about get dominos to deliver! I’m so desperate for the text now A lady had hers within 24hrs but nothing here yet 😭

No you can't, you need to message a family member or friend/neighbour to drop a few bits off to you.

motogogo · 09/07/2021 07:43

Strictly speaking you are breaking the law if you leave your house if you have symptoms and are awaiting results. What do you have in the house? A day without bread or milk is possible. Alternatively do you have a petrol station you can get some from close by?

Nootkah · 09/07/2021 07:45

Maybe a click and collect? Definitely dont go into a shop for goodness sake.

NannyAndJohn · 09/07/2021 07:45

No

Littlebelina · 09/07/2021 07:46

There used to be NHS volunteers who you could call to help with this sort of thing? Might be worth looking up if you are desperate. Hopefully you'll get a result asap

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 09/07/2021 07:46

Amazon groceries?

Call a local taxi firm and ask them to buy bread and milk and drop off (you paying fare plus shopping)?

NannyAndJohn · 09/07/2021 07:47

Ask a local taxi driver to pick up some essentials for you.

ineedaholidaynow · 09/07/2021 07:49

Is there a local community group who could help. Look on Facebook

ShesComeUndone · 09/07/2021 07:52

Is it a PCR test taken in order to attend a doctor’s appointment or did he ask you to take it because he thinks you have symptoms? Because when we have taken tests in order to attend hospital appointments they sent the results to the hospital and not us. You only hear if it is positive. I’m just wondering if that might be why you haven’t heard anything.

hopeishere · 09/07/2021 08:02

Can you phone the local shop and ask them to leave it outside in a bag and pay over the phone?

I'm not clear why you're having a test are you symptomatic?

MRex · 09/07/2021 08:03

Look up covid volunteers for your local authority, this is exactly what they do so that you don't have to break isolation.

ifonly4 · 09/07/2021 08:12

No, sorry you can't. Might be worth building up a mini stash of longlife milk, tinned fruit, ingredients to make bread etc in case this happens again. If you have isolation extended, Iceland have lots of delivery slots so might be worth checking if they'll drive out to you.

I was entitled to a PCR as a contact of a contact of a contact and told that as I'd taken the test, I was required to isolate. I know hospital appointments are the same thing here.

Crispycremedelight · 09/07/2021 08:21

I thought that might the case. Our area the volunteers have ‘stopped’ now, I was CEV when that existed as well. GP ordered one because DS had 2 asthma attacks in 1 day, they were very sudden and he doesn’t believe that they were asthma because they were sudden. LFT was negative on Sunday. GP also said LFT are worth the packaging there in as cases are so high! DS does now have a hacking cough but it is identical to the cough he gets all the time when he has croup, no temp at all. He also has hayfever to boot so I kinda get why the test has been ordered, it’s too err on caution, if I’d known I would’ve supplied up before the call 😂

Oh the typos! LFT are not worth!

Do you have any neighbour WhatsApp or Facebook group? I'd happily help out a stranger who asked.

Hotcuppatea · 09/07/2021 08:25

You don't have symptoms. You haven't been in touch with anyone who has symptoms. Go and get your bread and milk.

FindingMeno · 09/07/2021 08:29

If you are truly in dire straits and your children will be hungry, ask yourself What would Dominic Cummings do?

BergamotandLime · 09/07/2021 08:29

Phone your local shop and tell them your predicament. I know our local one would happily deliver some supplies over if that was the case.

NannyAndJohn · 09/07/2021 08:30

Have you heard of asymptomatic transmission?
PuppyMonkey · 09/07/2021 08:30

Her DS has a cough, it’s a symptom.

Hotcuppatea · 09/07/2021 08:32

Ridiculous. Everyone is potentially transmitting asymptomatically at any time. Should we all just stay home forever?

Hotcuppatea · 09/07/2021 08:32

Her DS has asthma. Go and get your stuff OP. You won't get a sensible answer off this board unfortunately.

bigbluebus · 09/07/2021 08:33

Do you have a Parish Council? I know ours was able to direct people to help in situations like this. Or if not how about the local church. Far better to ask for help from strangers than risk infecting them. Our village shop would also deliver in these circumstances.

Ohshitiveturnedintomymother · 09/07/2021 08:38

According to some on here, yes!

just in case

Exponential growth etc

OP go and get your milk etc. It’s for your young family. Wear a mask and if you are really worried, try your closest small shop and order through the door
