Can I do this?

We’re self isolating as GP has requested a PCR test very late on Wednesday evening so test has been done. We live quite rural, recently moved here and no family near by. We have run out of milk and bread as we started to isolate as soon as GP said. Can I go to the shops to get these essentials as we literally have nothing to give the kids to eat and my food order is not due to 5:30pm? As we’re rural not Uber eats/just eat etc either, can just about get dominos to deliver! I’m so desperate for the text now A lady had hers within 24hrs but nothing here yet 😭

GP ordered one because DS had 2 asthma attacks in 1 day, they were very sudden and he doesn’t believe that they were asthma because they were sudden.

GP suspects it isn’t asthma. Might be wrong, who knows? Got to assume the cough is a symptom. You’ll probably get your result soon OP just hang on an hour or two?

@FindingMeno

If you are truly in dire straits and your children will be hungry, ask yourself What would Dominic Cummings do?

Oh that sounds super tough. It is against the rules to go out though until your result comes back - and if you do have it, I'm sure you wouldn't want to be spreading it to the people in the shop/on the way etc.

Can you make it a little exciting for the kids? Spaghetti for breakfast just this once etc?

Hope your results comes back soon.

Sleepingdogs12 · 09/07/2021 08:44

Just nip out , wear your mask, pay contactless , only touch what you are going to buy. Stay away from people.

BIoodyStupidJohnson · 09/07/2021 08:48

If there's a Co-Op anywhere near you, try the Snappy Shopper app -- they may not be delivering in your area but it's worth a try. It's basically convenience store stuff via app. Nothing to do with Deliveroo but similar concept, except for groceries/essentials. And more ethically run.

Crispycremedelight · 09/07/2021 08:48

Thanks everyone, we’re going to hang tight, we have fruit and yoghurt so they’ll have that not sure about lunch maybe a repeat (and deal with the 💩 that follows later, then I can say it’s not COViD then, because you do not get the runs with it) but hopefully we’ll have some results by then. Honestly where we live is a joke and we’re not that far from London. Local church has been closed, no taxis to speak off, we have order from the nearest town so the charge £20 just to get to you before you set off to where you actually want to go. The laughter face was for the DC reference - still fairly new to posting on MN

OP you only need to self isolate if you have the symptoms, so your child cant go with you but you can. If his test comes back positive then you'd all have to isolate for 10 days from his positive test. Definitely go and get bits in!!!

BIoodyStupidJohnson · 09/07/2021 09:06

Oh sometimes you do I'm afraid! It's less common but still happens. A friend of mine and his teenage son both had covid, and their only symptoms were fatigue and... well... needing to be within 10 feet of a loo at all times. Blush

ineedaholidaynow · 09/07/2021 09:19

Gastro symptoms are quite common with children with COVID

Unfortunately this is not true until August, all household members need to isolate if a member has symptoms until you get a negative test. Had 2 year old crawling walls this week due to this!
ChessieFL · 09/07/2021 09:22

And it’s possible to have COVID and tummy issues at the same time!

Thissucksmonkeynuts · 09/07/2021 09:27

Ring your local vicarage and ask for a church member to bring you some supplies?

Cornettoninja · 09/07/2021 09:29

How old are your dc? If they’re in school/childcare it might be worth ringing them and seeing if they’re aware of anyone that could help. It’s worth a shot in the absence of a church acting as a community connection.

Tbh I personally couldn’t bring myself to break isolation if I was due a shopping delivery today but I understand why people do. If that’s what you feel you have to do I think ringing ahead and arranging a click and collect type of situation is the best plan.

Cornettoninja · 09/07/2021 09:30

Oh and sympathies on the proximity to London thing! We’re not even really rural and it seems that London still absorbs everything of any use which stops before it reaches us!

Topseyt · 09/07/2021 09:32

Just go and get what you need. You'll have to wear a mask in the shops anyway.

This bollocks needs to end. Covid is going nowhere and we need to learn to live with it.

I’m trying to make light of the situation (very badly apparently lol)

I saw this last night to try and convince myself

Can I do this?

Do you have a local Facebook group where you could ask if someone could help you out? I hope the test is negative and the results are back soon.

Anoisagusaris · 09/07/2021 09:51

I doubt you will get the runs from having fruit twice in one day. But are you saying you have no other food in the house except fruit and yogurt? No pasta, rice, crackers???

Honey12346 · 09/07/2021 12:19

No

Honey12346 · 09/07/2021 12:21

Sorry wrong thread! My response to this op is just go. We are all potentially transmitting it asymptomatocaly at all times so might as well never leave our houses!

Unescorted · 09/07/2021 12:40

I had a PCR on 5th... The results only came back today. They seem to be taking a while.

Crispycremedelight · 09/07/2021 12:46

Quick up date we had a negative result so I have gone out and got supplies tea all round now
